What Books I Read When I’m Not Feeling Well. #L&SR #WednesdayBlogChallenge 8-21-19

Welcome to L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge, What Books I Read When I’m Not Feeling Well.

What I Read When I’m Not Feeling Well. #L&SR #WednesdayBlogChallenge 8-21-19

I must say the question, Books I Read When I’m Not Feeling Well has never entered my mind.  First of all I take not feeling well to be either physically or mentally. We all have down days so I’m counting that situation that too.

Having racked my brain to figure out just what was meant by the topic and finally coming to the decision above, here is what I read when I’m feeling blue or have a cold or the flu.

First book- it would have to be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s my go to book or movie because good triumphs over evil in a really entertaining way.  Love to hate the Dursleys. Don’t you?

Next it would be Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity Series. I love those books and re-read them or listen to the audio books every chance I get.  They transport you into a wonderful cozy mystery that leaves you with that warm fuzzy good feeling. In fact I had a chance to talk with Nancy at a recent signing in Covered Treasures Book Store in Monument, CO, about all her books. What a great time we had!

Then my old stand by the werewolf series by Molly Harper. I know I’ve mentioned her here before, but for me she is the queen of snark and laugh out loud situations. You can tell by her titles, The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf,  How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf, and How to Run with a Hake Werewolf.  Her vampire series and Half Moon Hollow series touts the same snark, and snark makes me feel better regardless the reason I’m under the weather.

I could go on and on, but there you have it What I Read When I’m Not Feeling Well. Do you have a book you read when you are under the weather? I’d love to hear them. Please list them in the comments. Alas, I need to get back to my writing cave and the WIP, so let’s see what the other authors in this blog challenge claim as their Favorite food and what recipes they have shared: L&SR

Covered Treasures Celebrates 26 Years!

Where were you last evening? Last night I spent an enjoyable evening browsing the shelves of independent bookstore Covered Treasures in historic downtown Monument, Colorado.

I love the feel, and sounds of a historic building. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if those walls could whisper what they’ve seen?

A book store is a wonderful place. The scent of ink and paper coupled with the sound of pages being flipped in books of all genres, voices quietly chatting about the recent book they read brings back happy childhood memories. The store also has greeting cards and a interesting items like book lights, maps and cake.  That’s right a delicious cake to celebrate Covered Treasures twenty-six years in business! Brick and mortar bookstores are disappearing at a scary rate, so it warms the cockles of my heart to walk into this bookstore, pick up a book, leaf through the pages, and soak in the atmosphere.

Walking in the Covered Treasure, you’re immediately welcomed by the friendly, knowledgeable staff. On this evening not only the cake, veggie plates, and finger sandwiches brought me in, but one of my all-time favorite cozy mystery authors, NANCY ATHERTON, was signing her Aunt Dimity books and visiting with patrons.  In a warm, cozy, and unhurried place, an enjoyable, fun experience was had by all.

Oh, one more thing, I am so excited! You can now find my print books residing on Covered Treasures book shelves.   Want a signed copy?  I’d be happy to make that happen. Stop by 105 Second Street, Monument, CO and pick up A DEMON’S WITCH, A WITCH’S JOURNEY or A MAGIC REDEMPTION to name  few for summer reading around the campfire or at the beach. Leave your ordinary world behind and be swept into a magical, romantic fantasy adventure you’ll never want to leave.  Remember the magic for happily ever after!

Characters #L&SR #WednesdayBlogChallenge 3.20.19

Today’s prompt is Characters I want to meet.

Hands down the first character would be Matthew Clairmont in the Discovery of Witches – All Souls Trilogy. If you’ve not read these books I highly recommend them. They have also been made into a TV series that I love!

Matthew is the vampire that watches Diana Bishop, a witch in the Bodleian Library in Oxford University after hearing rumors she had called out a particular bewitched manuscript at Mabon.

He studies genetics, a subject I’ve always been interested in. My question to him would be what has he discovered about the genetic basis of creatures as part of the human evolution?  Also I’m dying to know if Chris Roberts  has the hots for Miriam both characters from Discovery of Witches.  LOL

Don’t discount Dianna Bishop the heroine, She is a strong, determined and loyal character with a great intellect. I’d love to ask her about science vs magic and her alchemy experiment with the tree of life.

I’m also a huge fan of Molly Harper and her werewolf series, How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf, How to Run with a Naked Werewolf, and The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf.

Character Mo Wenstein, heroine, is a southern transplant to Alaska where she meets Alpha Cooper Graham in How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf.  She is funny, a great cook despite her hippy parents which is one of the reasons she’s in Alaska and she has a over abundance of snark. What I want to know is how does she make those chocolate chess squares? Yummy! Speaking of yummy how about that hunky werewolf, Cooper?

I could go on for hours!

Okay. twist my arm, one more would be Lori Shepard from Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity Series. I’ve followed her from when she first inherited a cottage and trust from Aunt Dimity to her wedding, the birth of her children, settling in a quaint little village of Finch in England and all her adventures thereafter. I want to know how she juggles motherhood, wife to a lawyer, keeps up with the gossip in finch and still has time for wonderful adventures. LOL

These are a few of my favorite characters that I would love to meet.  If you have a moment, tell me in the comments about a character you’d love to meet. Let’s see who the other authors in this challenge want to meet, shall we? Click here: Long and Short WednesdayBlog Challenge. Have a great rest of your week.

Camping a Recipe for Summer Treats & Reads

TWRP BLog hop banner July 2016

My hubby, our dog, bird, turtle and I love to trade the jungle of civilization for a few days of paradise relaxing in the cool quiet of a Rocky Mountain campsite with a mesmerizing book and evening campfire.  That’s my idea of Summer Treats and Reads. Okay, let me qualify what camping is to us.  We have a fifth wheel trailer with all the creature comforts required, left tent camping behind a long time ago. LOL

Favorite camping areas in Colorado are: Rocky Mountain National Park a stones throw from Estes Park is a great hiking and biking destination. Twin Lakes in the Pike & San Isabel National Forest is wonderful for kayaking and mountain biking.  Both these areas are dry camping, no services but with a generator or solar panels you are all set.

Another fun place is Steamboat Lake, a Colorado State Park, the kayaking is good, hiking with your furry friend is excellent.  Electrical is available on some sites.  Not far away is Pearl Lake, nice kayaking area, lots of wildlife early morning or around dusk.  No motorized boats allowed.  It’s also primitive/dry camping but there are several sites large enough for a 30 foot fifth wheel trailer.

These are just a few of the exciting camping area’s in Colorado. Last week we enjoyed a fun filled vacation at Lake Vallecito which I detailed in the prior post.

Mueller State Park is close and a great weekend trip to the mountains.  Cheyenne Mountain State Park is centrally located for visiting all the Pikes Peak Region has to offer and is open all year around. It is usually our final destination of the season.  The park offers full hookups, tent pad and campfire ring on each site.

Now for the Treats:  Chocolate Cherry Dumpcake Recipe. Quick and easy.

2 cans (21 ounces each) cherry pie filling

1 package (about 15 ounces) Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake mix or your favorite Chocolate Cake mix.

3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13 X 9 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Spread the pie filling in prepared pan, top with cake mix only, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.  pour butter over top, covering cake mix as much as possible.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean.  Cool at least 15 minutes before serving.  Make 12 to 16 servings. Now for just my husband, myself and a couple of friends, we cut this recipe in half and use a 9X9 inch baking pan or a cast iron dutch oven. Yummy!

For Reads: Obviously, I’d like you to check out my books,

I like cozy and regular mysteries, paranormal romances books categorized as fun reads.  I’m not into thrillers or weepy books.
