Pssst… Don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter at the end of this post.
What inspired you to write?
I love reading paranormal romance, exploring the mysterious and other worldly. At some point, I started to think – Hey, I could write this. I had to muster enough courage to sit down and try, and when I did I realized it was a lot harder than I’d imagined. Even with the myriad of challenges it takes to put pen to paper, once I started writing, I thrived on the creative energy. I’m constantly amazed by the wandering of my mind as it leads me to the next part of the story and the complexity of the characters who emerge in the process. I see the story, and writing itself, as a continuous inspiration.
Did you tell friends and family that you were writing a book? Or did it take a while to come out and tell friends and family you were a writer?
Not at first. I was too embarrassed. I wrote the first two books in the Quytel Series by waking up at 5am to write for two hours before I left for work. I then promptly filed both manuscripts away in a box in my closet. A writer friend of mine had to convince me that I should at least let someone else read them. I did finally share an early draft of Circle of Dreams with her and select members of my family, without any of the sex scenes mind you. I cleverly replaced them with *INSERT STEAMY SEX SCENE HERE*. Now it is out there for the world, and my family to read-gulp. But so far, so good! For more on this, see my guest blog post today on Fang-tastic Books: http://fang-tasticbooks.blogspot.com
Where do your story ideas come from?
This is such a good question and I have no idea. The creative recesses of the mind, if I were to guess. What I do know is that in order for my story and characters to come into focus, I need down time when I’m not thinking or worrying about anything else, which is increasingly difficult as life gets busy. When I was writing the first two books in the series, I had a commute to my day job which included a bus, metro, and a walk. That twenty-minute walk was like gold. I could let my mind relax, wander, and I frequently stopped to jot down the next twist and turn in the story.
What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block?
Writer’s block is scary. I find it creeps up on me slowly until I suddenly realize I’m not writing. I’m not sure how that happens, but once it does, I have to force myself back into a routine. I thrive with a routine. That means carving out time, and writing every day, even if it stinks… until it doesn’t.
I think we can all relate to that!
A sneak peek between the pages of Circle of Dreams
Bri knew him. It had been his face in her nightmare. His presence had soothed and calmed her that night. He stood right in front of her now and had just ripped the door off a room no one should have been able to find.
Please don’t let him be my enemy, she whispered in her mind. Who else could he be?
Holding the gun more firmly locked on her target, Bri hoped it deterred him because she knew she would never be able to shoot this beautiful man.
“Are you going to shoot me?” His voice, strong and clear, didn’t sound too worried.
Bri shivered. A sharp stab of desire shot straight through her, and at first she didn’t really register his words.
“We don’t have much time,” he pressed.
A thud downstairs startled her. The man moved fast. She had no time to react before he snatched the 9-millimeter easily out of her hand. He tucked it into the waistband of his jeans and grabbed her other arm.
His touch was electric. When he took a step closer, he crowded her and she could almost feel the hard muscles of his broad chest. The loss of her gun left her completely vulnerable.
He placed a finger lightly against her trembling lips and her stomach did a slow roll. “Don’t move. Don’t yell.” He whispered the words softly into the shell of her ear. “I’m here to help you, Brianna. You have to trust me.”
She shivered. How did he know her name? She felt trapped, caught in an overpowering spell that heated her body. She was tall, but he was taller. And gorgeous, much better looking than she remembered from her nightmare. A part of her recognized she should be far more frightened of him than she was.
“There are men downstairs tearing your house apart right now. I have no idea why they’re searching for you. I can get you out of here, but we have to go now.” A quiet command. “I’m not here to hurt you. Trust me.”
Bri took a defensive step away. He didn’t let her go far, silver-gray eyes holding hers, willing her to believe him. The secret passageways inside the walls of the house would be too risky now that the room had been exposed.

A peek between the pages of Haunted by Darkness – Chapter One
Victorian London
Lucien closed his eyes and tucked his violin under his chin, placed the bow to strings and began to play. Long notes with a bittersweet edge embodied the atmosphere, like a ship floating, lost, its crew and sails forever lost at sea.
A door slammed in the background, and something heavy pounded the floor. Lucien’s eyebrows knitted in frustration, as a discordant note sliced through the illusion he created. He placed the instrument on an end table, and stormed out of the library, into the parlor.
His brother, Edward, stood near the entry, loosening his cravat. He nodded. “Lucien.”
“What are you doing slamming into the house like a herd of elephants?”
The material slid off Edward’s neck, and his lips curled into a pout. “Annabelle has decided to marry Merrill Brighton,” he said, with a huff. “That leaves me starting over, or marrying Winnifred Camden.”
Lucien didn’t think Winnifred was so bad. She had a few love handles, but that just added to her personality somehow. His brother on the other hand, wanted someone with riches and popularity. Lucien frowned and shifted. “What does that have to do with your conduct? Please settle the affairs of your love life without tearing down the house? Even Winnifred won’t want a man with a poor disposition.”
“Easy for you to say. Ladies hang on your every word.” He smiled, “Or should I say note?” He sat at the piano, and ran his hands over the keys. Soft sounds poured into the room like a whisper.
Lucien sighed, and pulled his coat from the rack. While he loved his brother’s piano, he wanted to play violin and he couldn’t do it with the other music in the background. “I’m going for a walk.”
“Shouldn’t be out alone tonight,” Edward said. “The moon is full, and it’s children will roam seeking their next meal, as the night wears on.”
Lucien scoffed. “Fairytales written to frighten children. Don’t be absurd.”
Edward laughed, and the door slammed shut behind Lucien. Not that he was angry, he understood Edward’s frustration. A gentleman needed to find a woman of wealth to settle with in order to live in comfort, unless he had a fortune of his own. Lucien didn’t worry about such things. He would rather spend his time making music. Everyone fell into the hands of destiny anyway, the cards would fall where they wanted, changing the course of a man’s life, and shaping his future in ways he never dreamed. A pleasant chill climbed up his back. Where would his music take him? Would he be able to perform in great halls, or be forced to settle with a woman, warming a bed and creating babies for her comfort?
The moon hovered bright over the city, and sparkles of light danced on the surface of the Themes. Lucien stopped to watch, breathing in the cool night air. His favorite kind of evening after a warm, summer day. Frustration rolled off his shoulders in waves. He began to relax and continued on his way.
footsteps shuffled behind him. He stopped and glanced back. Nothing but the moon and it’s shadows disturbed the darkness of night. A bird screeched overhead, and he jumped, as he resumed his walk. The footsteps resumed when he continued walking. When he stopped again, they did too. Could there be something to the moon children myth? Goosebumps covered his skin as he turned and squinted to see better, but there was still only darkness. He took a deep breath and shrugged the tension out of his shoulders. He was being foolish.
The shuffling stopped when he turned toward the city, and soon he wondered if it had been the work of an over-active imagination. His anger giving rise to the absurd. His shoulders dropped, and he relaxed, as new threads of music filled his mind. He hummed them as he walked, until the shadow of a man came into view up the lane. Lucien tensed, was someone waiting for him? He turned left at the corner, but moments later, the silhouette stood waiting once more. He turned again.
It had to be someone else. No one could move that fast. How many people were out this evening? Maybe it had something to do with the moon. His brother’s words echoed in his mind. He turned again, and shuddered when he saw the silhouette of the man waiting.
Lucien’s heart raced. He spun and jogged back the way he came. In seconds, the silhouette blocked him, but this time it was closer. His chest tightened as the man moved toward him, his stride like a feral cat. For a moment, all Lucien could do was stare.
Lucien broke the spell, spun around and ran. The chest he crashed into was solid as cement. Muscled arms encompassed him. He kicked his feet and twisted, but the man’s grip tightened.
“Don’ worry,” a smooth voice crooned.
Lucien shuddered.
“We’ll be done in just a few minutes.”

Interview with Kirsten Weiss Author of Fey
Give a Spooktacular welcome to Kirsten Weiss, Author of Fey, The Witches of Doyle, Book 5
What kind of supernatural research do you do, and how long do you spend
researching before beginning a book?
believe that especially when I’m writing some magical, basing the magic on
real, historical systems makes the stories seem more “real.” So, I’ll usually
research whatever magical system my heroine works in (e.g. shamanism, earth
witchery, or alchemy) as well as the mythology of whatever other characters she
encounters. It’s a lot of fun!
What haunted pilgrimages have you gone on?
hunt in Gettysburg, PA. It’s been on my bucket list, because it’s supposed to
be one of the most haunted parts of America. We got to play with EMF detectors
and other ghost hunting equipment. I’m not sure if we encountered any ghosts,
but we did encounter a lot of Gettysburg teens. Apparently playing with Ouija
boards at the local ghost sites is the thing to do.
Do you hide any magical secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
communication and business, so I always insert his name in my books somewhere
as a nod to him.
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
one. In my Witches of Doyle cozy mysteries, one of my witches, Karin Bonheim,
writes paranormal romance (PNR). I thought it would be fun to write some PNR
novellas as Karin, and weave her story in between the chapter. These novellas
are The Witches of Doyle In-Betweens.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a
better writer?
writes romance (she’s super funny), and she introduced me to her gang of fellow
romance writers. They’ve really helped me kick up the romance in my mysteries
several notches. I’m indebted to them on several levels.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of
work with connections between each book?
of Doyle series is connected to my Wits End cozy mysteries. They all take place
in Doyle, and characters make cameos in each others’ books. And of course,
there are those paranormal romances I mentioned under the Karin Bonheim name –
some of my Wits’ End characters show up there as well.
Q: How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
A: Too many! I’ve been rolling out a new book every month since June, and the last title in this publishing frenzy, The Gargoyle Chronicles, will publish in November. And Fey, Book 5 from The Witches of Doyle, is out October 28th. I’m also working on books four and five in my Pie Town cozy mystery series. The third book in that series, Pie Hard, will launch in January, 2019. And I’ve got the first book in a new Tea and Tarot series which will probably publish in early 2019 and is called Steeped in Murder. And then there’s book 4 in my Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum series, Chocolate a’la Murder. That’s coming out in March, 2019.
Tell us a little about Fey.This witch will do anything for a normal life with the man she loves. But when you’re on fairy patrol, normal is relative.
Witch Jayce Bonheim has packed away her candles, crystals and cauldrons. With her boyfriend recovering from a hex, she’s determined to build a sane and magic-free life for them both.
But when a horde of troublemaking gnomes invades the small town of Doyle, it’s up to Jayce and her magical sisters to send them packing.
After the gnomes lead Jayce to a murdered employee from her own café, she’s plunged into an investigation that lands her in the sheriff’s crosshairs. And Jayce must catch a killer before the sheriff’s brewing witch hunt nets a very real witch.
Fey is book 5 in The Witches of Doyle cozy mystery novels. Buy Fey and start reading this quirky witch mystery today!
Spells included at the back of the book.
Witch Jayce Bonheim has given up magic due to her boyfriend, Brayden’s encounter with an evil witch. Yeah it was a bad experience. Basically, it is a miscommunication between the two that leads her to believe she shouldn’t preform magic. Which as it turns out, isn’t the case.
Then there are the mysterious of the death of Jayce’s employee. The weird characters O’Hare and Raven, popping up at strange time and watching the sisters. There are twists and turns in the plot and I didn’t figure out who the murderer was until the end. Kudo’s to Kristen Weiss on that point.
Over all, I enjoyed Fey. It was a fun Magical Cozy Mystery. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with magic stirred in, you’ll enjoy this book and the series.
Four stars
About the author:
Kirsten Weiss has never met a dessert she didn’t like, and her guilty pleasures are watching Ghost Whisperer re-runs and drinking red wine. The latter gives her heartburn, but she drinks it anyway.
Now based in San Mateo, CA, she writes genre-blending cozy mystery, supernatural and steampunk suspense, mixing her experiences and imagination to create vivid worlds of fun and enchantment.
If you like funny cozy mysteries, check out her Pie Town, Paranormal Museum and Wits’ End books. If you’re looking for some magic with your mystery, give the Witches of Doyle, Riga Hayworth and Rocky Bridges books a try. And if you like steampunk, the Sensibility Grey series might be for you.
