Love’s Redemption by Author Kara O’Neal – This Week’s Featured Author

Give a big welcome to Kara O’Neal, author of Love’s Redemption. Have a seat and grab an insulated mug. I’ve got hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee. Choose your pot, they’re labeled. Pick your choice of a Snicker-doodle, Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter cookie from the plate. Yep, I baked them myself. Lets see what  Love’s Redemption is all about.  Thanks for joining us!

Kara tell us what  inspired this particular story?

love-s-redemptionLove’s Redemption is a story of forgiveness and courage. I loved writing this book. Willa is someone I admire. She’s had a tough life and does everything she can to protect her loved ones. I enjoyed exploring her heart and watching her achieve happiness. And she deserves so much happiness. Lonnie is the man she needs, loyal, steady and kind. He is, without doubt, my favorite hero in the Pikes Run Series. (So far.) And while he has a calm nature, he can be just as assertive and determined as Willa. Together they make a wonderful couple, a model of true love. You will not be disappointed in their journey!

How about a little about Love’s Redepmtion?

When she was little more than a child, Willa Kramer went to extreme lengths to save her family from their abusive father. After that horrible day, her mother and siblings moved to Tennessee, and Willa had hoped to leave Texas, its memories and Lonnie Davis, the only boy she had ever trusted, behind. But fate is unpredictable.

Five years have passed, and Lonnie finds himself reunited with Willa, the only girl he’s ever loved. He’s determined not to let her slip away again, but a figure from the past looms, threatening his hopes for the future.

A snippet from Love’s Redemption:

He paused. His chest tightened. He’d waited a long time to see her, had wondered if he ever would. Years ago, she’d wrapped him around her little finger, and he’d grown so attached to her, he’d thought about moving to Tennessee to be with her. But then she had stopped writing. To say it had hurt would be an understatement. But he hadn’t been angry. He could never be angry with her. Never. And now she was back and near. It was too tempting.

After taking a deep breath, he moved forward then went through the screen door. Even though it gave a loud creak, she didn’t turn. Did she know it was he who stood behind her?

The light breeze ruffled her skirt. Her long, velvety hair grazed the small of her back. An ache centered in the pit of his stomach. He’d missed her. And now she was here. “Hello, Willa.”

Tsunami – The Rest of the Story

Today Author’s Secrets is participating in the blogfest for Tsunami Crimes, Chrys Fey’s new release, third in her Disaster series. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom of this post to enter the Rafflecopter.

Our instructions were to create an entertaining tale fantastical, or fictional  interview of a  tsunami survivor.  I chose fun and fantastical. I don’t mean in any way to downplay the devastation and danger of a tsunami, but here we go.

“This is Chrys Fey reporting for Disaster 5 News. I am in Hawaii where a tsunami hit yesterday morning. I have Stormy Weathers with me, a survivor of the tsunami. Stormy, can you tell our viewers what happened, and how you survived?”

“It was a friggin’ fiery wave,” Stormy said.

“Fiery wave?”the-flight-of-dragons-polet

“Yes, the crest of the wave was fringed with fire. It was at least sixty feet high and headed right for us. Before it hit the shore, a flight of twenty-four enormous iridescent dragons came out of nowhere, scattered across the sky. Twelve of them lined up wing tip to wing tip in front of the crashing wave, the beating of their enormous wings caused a back draft that slowed the huge wall of water.

The rest of the winged creatures breathed fire over the water, that’s where the fringe of fire came from. The combination lessened the impact. By the time the tsunami actually hit, it was only about half the size of the original.  It slammed into the southern part of the island.  It was still devastating, boats sitting on roof tops, people clinging to lamp poles and huge trees ripped from the ground. Cries, screams.” Stormy covered her ears with her hands. “It was terrible.”

“You were…are… in shock,” Chrys suggested, glancing around at the other survivors gathering in the still flooded path where she stood.

06ff50672550a91e2b8afcb3cfac85a1Stormy, a piece of seaweed still stuck in her frizzed red hair,  fisted her hands on hips and glared at the reporter. “I am not hallucinating. Poseidon himself rode atop a smaller wave with another flight of Dragons converging overhead.  Darnest thing I ever saw.”

Chrys’ eyebrows rose nearly to her hairline, she shook her head. “So….did you talk to Poseidon?”images

“As a matter of fact I did.  He said he was sorry for the tsunami. The hundred-year hatching of the endangered dragons emerged ahead of schedule.  Their eggs were buried in the Pacific Ocean, you know. Anyway, the combination of the hatching and celebration by the adult dragons swirling in the water caused the tsunami.  Which is why there was no warning, no event preceeding the tsunami.”

Chrys rolled her eyes at her cameraman. “Let me get this straight. A flight of dragons caused, and tried to stop the tsunami. Poseidon himself apologized for the disaster and you are the only one who saw this.” She threw her arms up in the air. “Unbelievable. Pack it in Sam.” Suddenly, Sam, the cameraman, started pointing behind her at the ocean. “Chrys…Chrys…”

Stormy’s eyes widened, she gawked over Chry’s shoulder, then relocated to her side and snatched the cell phone from her hand. “Mind if I take a selfie? It’s not every day you see Poseidon himself riding a wave atop an iridescent dragon.” Stormy stared at the cameraman. “You are getting this, right?”

Speechless, Sam nodded.

Chrys whirled around, dropped the mic, and screamed as they were buzzed by a flight of dragons. “Don’t you dare drop that camera,”  she commanded to Sam and scooped up the mic, pushed her long damp hair from her face, smiled into the camera and said, “Chrys Fey reporting live from the south shore for Disaster 5 News.”

Now the real Tsunami Crimes, by Chrys Fey. It’s quite a story!  One, I truly enjoyed.

tsunamicrimes_w11205_750Beth and Donovan have come a long way from Hurricane Sabrina and the San Francisco earthquake. Now they are approaching their wedding day and anxiously waiting to promise each other a lifetime of love. The journey down the aisle isn’t smooth, though, as they receive threats from the followers of the notorious criminal, Jackson Storm. They think they’ll be safe in Hawaii, but distance can’t stop these killers. Not even a tsunami can.

This monstrous wave is the most devastating disaster Beth has ever faced. It leaves her beaten, frightened. Is she a widow on her honeymoon? As she struggles to hold herself together and find Donovan, she’s kidnapped by Jackson’s men.

Fearing her dead, Donovan searches the rubble and shelters with no luck. The thought of her being swept out to sea is almost too much for him to bear, but the reality is much worse. She’s being used as bait to get him to fall into a deadly trap.

If they live through this disaster, they may never be the same again.

Lori Sizemore Author of Infamous

Give a warm welcome to Lori Sizemore, author of  Infamous! Sassy humor for the heart, captivating contemporary romance for the soul.Lori Sizemore

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Lori and Infamous.

Tell us about writing Infamous!

Infamous released into the world last month, on December 14. So far, reviewers have been very generous and gracious to me and it’s been a wonderful time. Infamous is my first published novel. It’s also the first in a planned trilogy. While I was editing Infamous with my editor and getting it ready for publication, I wrote book two.

There are several secrets revealed in Infamous. In fact, the latter part of the book is all about secrets that Justine and her family are keeping from one another. In book two, there’s another revelation at the very beginning for my hero (he’s mentioned briefly in Infamous). The heroine is Sawyer’s trusty and snarky assistant, Veronica.

Secrets in fiction are delicious little delicacies, as opposed to their real-life counterpart. In real-life, secrets are destructive and dangerous. Of course, for characters, secrets feel exactly the same. Secrets can ruin family relationships, crush hearts, and humiliate everyone involved.

In Infamous, Justine is compelled to keep her blossoming relationship with Sawyer a secret from her father because he’s ruined past relationships for her. What Justine really needs is someone her father can’t bully or buy off. Someone who loves her more than the anything-he-could-want offer Justine’s father inevitably makes to everyone who enters her life.

When the secret relationship is finally revealed, it sets off a chain reaction of secrets that nearly destroy her and her family. They say a secret isn’t a secret if more than one person knows. Justine finds this out first-hand.

as a secret, yours or someone else’s, ever blown up in front of you? It’s sort of like one of those train-wreck moments you can’t look away from. Any secrets to share?

infamous_w10541_300-200x300A little about Infamous?

Justine Montgomery, daughter of a divorced beauty queen and TV magnate, is a tabloid disaster after her infamous sex tape. She’s so desperate to help save her family’s home she turns to her deal-making dad. Can she prove to him she’s cut out for a career in television or will she lose it all?

Sawyer has his own past and a successful career is his only goal. Seeing Justine fail would mean the promotion of a lifetime, but things get complicated when he develops feelings for her. Suddenly, the lines between work, life, sex, and love are blurry.

They will have to overcome the bitterness of a rejected ex, the controlling actions of her father, and the half-truths they’re telling one another to forge a lasting partnership both on the job and off the clock.

Excerpt

He considered her for a moment, searching her face. “I want to get you out of those expensive clothes.”

She froze and took a jagged breath.

Sawyer slid a hand behind her to pull her ponytail over her shoulder and run the curls through his fingers. “I want to mess up your hair, fist it in my hands while I kiss you until you can’t think.”

As he toyed with her curls, Justine blanked. At that second, she’d have said yes to anything he asked of her. She stood to open her door then turned back, unsure what would come out. “I can’t think right now.”

With a tilt of the head, he leaned in. “I’m going to kiss you anyway.”

A voice in the back of her mind told her she was going to have to practice telling this man no. He pressed her to the wall, sucked at her bottom lip, ran his tongue across it. Heat blasted through her.

Sawyer tugged her through the open doorway. He kicked the door shut and backed her against it slowly. Pale streetlight from outside the window cast them in shadows. The weight of how much she wanted him almost crushed her. They kissed and, despite them both being fully clothed, she felt vulnerable. Naked.

His hands pressed flat against the wall beside her, his breathing as uneven as her own. “Say it.”

“Say what?”

“Tell me you want me. That you think about me touching you, that it keeps you up at night. Tell me it’s not just me.”

“I do.” Her voice came out fluttery.

He ran a hand through her hair, toying with the ends. “I wonder things, like how you sound when you’re excited and…”

She put a finger to his lips, still moist from their kisses. “Stop saying things like that. I don’t want to know because then I won’t be able to stop thinking about you thinking those things.” She tilted her head back against the wall and steadied a hand on his chest. His muscles bunched beneath her fingers. She needed to think. She needed to process all of this and…

He lifted her hand, nuzzling the sensitive skin on her wrist, which sent a quiver down her spine. When she couldn’t take any more, she withdrew it from his grasp. And Sawyer was there, picking up where he left off, with a leisurely, complete, thorough kiss. And, oh, she kissed him back. How could she not? His kiss, it was everything. Like something in her, that had been off her whole life, snapped into place.

Her heart jittered in her chest and propelled her past the desire, past the panic gnawing inside because she wanted more of him. She wanted to touch him and taste him and be filled by him, but even more beyond that.

Winter’s Kiss by Author Darlene Fredette

WK BookTour

Today Author’s secrets is excited to host Darlene Fredette on her new release blog tour for Winter’s Kiss. She has a giveaway for visitors who leave a comment on any stop during her tour, and additional giveaways for visitors who leave a comment on her blog.

Give a big welcome to Darlene Fredette, author of Winter’s Kiss. Have a seat and grab a ceramic mug. There’s  hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee on the table. Choose your pot, they’re labeled. Grab a Snicker-doodle, Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter cookie from the plate. Yep, I baked them myself.  Darlene, tell us a little about writing this book and being an author in general.

What inspired this particular story?

That’s a good question because Winter’s Kiss obviously takes place in winter, and I am not a fan of this particular season. I don’t like cold or snow, so you’d think all of my stories would be based in a summery setting, lol. However, I do like the idea of sitting by a warm fire, a cup of hot apple cider, a horse sleigh ride…perfect inspiration for a story.

What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block?

I step away. It might just take a few hours, an evening, or perhaps a day, but stepping away from my story allows the inspiration and ideas to return instead of being forced. If I’m too in the moment, sometimes I can’t get the words to come out, but if I step away and let the scene rest, fresh thoughts form and the scene comes together much easier.

Do you see yourself in your characters?

Good heavens no, lol. I’m not nearly as adventurous as my characters. Their lives are more exciting…and sometimes troublesome. I prefer calm and quiet.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love to be with my family (husband, teenage daughter, and Yellow Lab). We can be home hanging out in the yard, watching movies, or playing games. And in the spring and summer, taking day trips to the Valley or renting a cottage for the weekend.

getPart (4)Let’s see what  Winter’s Kiss is all about.  I love that cover!

Nothing thaws the chill faster than a warm winter kiss.

She’s been on a flight from hell for over eight hours, lost four hours of daylight, and arrived in temperatures twenty degrees lower than accustomed to. Disliking winter for a reason she refuses to discuss, Danielle Lerato would rather be anywhere than in Redford Falls. She needs to get the job done and return home before getting caught up in the small town’s charm…and the arms of the handsome, brown-eyed restaurant owner.

Andrew Haley’s first encounter with the buttery blonde didn’t go so well, and he well-remembers the chill of the glass of water she dumped over his head. Now, two years later, a raging storm drops Danielle back into his life. She’s determined to leave, but he’ll do whatever it takes to convince her to fall in love with Redford Falls…and him.

Can we have a sneak peek into Winter’s Kiss?

Danielle probably looked a hideous mess. Her hair had come loose from the clip on the top of her head. Sleep masked her eyes. She wanted nothing more than to wash her face and sterilize her hands from the airborne germs she encountered on the plane. “I’ve been on the flight from hell for over eight hours. I’ve lost four hours of daylight, and the temperature here is twenty degrees lower than where I live.” She pulled the straps of her leather jacket tight around her waist. “I have to rent a car and drive two hours to a small town where, if I blink I’ll miss it.” She waved a pointed finger in the air for dramatic effect. “I’d rather be anywhere but here.”
