A little about CHARM ME AGAIN!

For several months a Scottish Highland Ghost has haunted Daylan, in his personal life, his professional life and at his forge. Yet, being a talented warlock, he is no closer to discovering what the ghost wants or why he chose Daylan. A trip to his estranged sister’s home in Colorado may have unforeseen consequences especially when family history leads him to a shocking discovery.

As his attraction blooms for Josie, a yoga instructor in his sister’s studio, he realizes there may be more to Josie than he can imagine. When an ancient rogue Fae Warrior set on revenge kidnaps her in an attempt to claim her as his own, a devastating curse comes to light.

Daylan’s world spirals out of control as he searches for Josie. Can he break the age old curse to save her and their future, or will she be lost to him forever?

Snippet:

She padded over to the window and opened it a crack. The fresh air on her skin was cool. It relieved the smothering feeling that came over her the minute Daylan left the room. Taking a cleansing breath, she braced her hands against the window frame and took another deep calming breath.

Moonlight flooded inside with a light breeze. There it was again, that pull. Something was drawing her outside. Warning bells went off inside her head. Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Despite her fear, the desire to go outside was overwhelming.

The security alarm started counting down and she quickly closed the window. Shit. No way out. Unless…There is was again, she had to get outside.

The powerful urge had her pickup her backpack, slip out the window, skitter cross the roof to the corner of the building and shimmy down. It was like she had no control over her own movements. Her brain screamed for control—to no avail then she was sprinting to her vehicle in the parking lot. Carefully she opened the door, climbed in, started the engine and slowly pulled out of the parking lot onto the street and floored it.

Suddenly a cold clammy hand closed around her throat. Nails dug into her neck. “Take a right here. Pull into the driveway and stop. Don’t turn around.”

Finally, self-preservation took over. Releasing the steering wheel, she clawed at the hand closing off her oxygen, and opened her mouth to scream. Nothing came out. Then everything when black.

Interview Julie Howard Author of Wild Crime

Happy holidays to all! Give a big welcome to Julie Howard, author of Wild Crime.Have a seat and grab an insulated mug. I’ve got hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee. Choose your pot, they’re labeled. Pick your choice of a Snicker-doodle, Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter cookie from the plate. Yep, I baked them myself. Lets see find out a little about Julie’s Wild Crime. Thanks for joining us!

Julie, how about a few questions?

I”m game. Shoot!

What inspired you to write?

I’ve always been an avid reader and am envious of every good author out there. I’ll read a great book and instantly wish I’d written it. Steinbeck, Austen, Eliot, Allende… and on and on… I’m reading Ruth Ware’s new mystery/suspense “The Turn of the Key” and David McCullough’s nonfiction “The Path Between the Seas” and wish I could be as good a writer. Anyway, reading wonderful authors inspires me to write and keep writing. I love a good story, whether it comes from me or someone else.

Do you see yourself in your characters?

I think there’s a little of me in all my characters, the good ones and bad ones. I have to inhabit all my characters in my mind in order to write them into life, so I have to imagine their motivations, hopes and darkest secrets. I do hope I’m more like my good characters though!

What do you want your readers to take away from your books?

There is always hope, even when life feels impossibly difficult. If you just keep moving forward, there are options. Just keep trying, and then try some more. It’s okay to fail as long as you pick yourself up and give it another go.

Why do you write what you write?  Contemporary, paranormal,  suspense, etc.

I love puzzles and games of all sorts, especially crosswords and Scrabble. I view mysteries as a puzzle that I’m creating for my readers. I have to set up the goal (guessing the murderer, or solution) and then lay down logical clues so the reader can enjoy guessing and figuring out what happened. I get to be a puzzlemaster and writer at the same time. It’s great fun!

If writing is your first passion, what is your second?

I enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures and histories. My husband and I travel as much as we have time for, and still have a long list of places we’d like to visit. I can’t imagine ever being tired of seeing new places. So far, each place has been so unique and I’m amazed at the diversity and friendliness of people and places. What a fascinating world we live in.

A little about Wild Crime:

“I’m a murderer. I’m a murderer. I’m a murderer.”

Those three repeated words discovered in an old letter propel Meredith Lowe in a cross-country pursuit to unveil her mother’s murky past. Danger stalks Meredith back to Hay City, Idaho as she peels apart the mystery: who is her father, and did her mother kill him? In finding the answer, will a growing love slip through her fingers?

Past merges with the present as the story races to its stunning conclusion.

Sneak peek between the pages of  Wild Crime:

Her hair fell below her waist, ripped free of its ties and weighed down by the warm, lashing rain. The sky-blue dress, so carefully chosen for this night and tried on so many times in her bedroom, was ruined. One strap had torn from her shoulder and dangled down her back. Mud splattered the hem. Sweet Cantaloupe lipstick, a lovely coral that heightened the green in her eyes, was smeared like a bruise on one cheek. She ran.

The high school gym behind her, decorated in crepe paper and curtains, vibrated with electric guitars and teen-aged hormones. Couples gyrated on the dance floor and then disappeared into dark corners. It was late and the Spring Dance was in full throttle. No one would miss her for hours.

Before her, trees dripped moss, barely visible in the darkness. She envisioned the moss brushing her shoulders, low branches snagging in her hair, the possibility of snakes both at her feet and above; this made her hesitate. It would take one scream, one gasp, and he would find her.

My Review;

This is a well written book dealing  with some difficult issues. After the death of her mother and estranged grandmother, Meredith is searching for a father she’d never known. But she discovers more than she is prepared to handle.

Sheriff Curtis is her romantic interest. He is understanding and supportive of her cross-country pursuit of the truth.

The characters are well rounded and evoke strong feeling while you read the book. It takes a talented author to pull that off and Julie did it with ease.

Overall a great read and one I recommend.  5 stars

What is Your Superpower? #L&SR #WednesdayBlogChallenge 9-18-19

Welcome to #L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge, What is Your Superpower? Mine would be the ability to spin a tale and sweep people out of their ordinary world into a magical, romantic, fantasy adventure. Sprinkled with a little determination to get the job done.  Strange combination huh?

I’ve always been a very determined person. I like to make things happen and I want it to be right. That wasn’t always a popular concept in the male dominated world of law as a paralegal.  But when you can’t tell the attorneys from the criminal, it’s time to leave.  Then as an IT manger in an electronic contracting firm, well let’s just say fudging to make it look right wasn’t my strong suit.

Now, as an author of paranormal romance with a touch of mystery I strive to take my readers on a fantasy adventure they’ll never forget. Hopefully my stories will make then forget their stress and problems of the real word behind, if only for a few hours. I think I’ve found my niche.

Four years, ten books published with The Wild Rose Press and abundance of happy readers, I’m a thankful author! What will the future hold? Even my tale spinning and determination can’t control that. So… what is your superpower? I’d love to hear about your superpower in the comments.

Alas, I need to get back to my writing cave where deadlines loom, so let’s see what the other authors in this blog challenge claim as their Superpower. L&SR

During my walk, I discovered a couple of men searching the area where I found you. It sounded like they were involved with what happened to you. Feel up to looking at a couple of sketches to see if you recognize them?”

Her eyes rounded, and she drew her bottom lip though her teeth. “I don’t know,” she said wincing again, her voice trembling.

He considered her response for a moment. “Well, I’m afraid, you really don’t have a choice. Someone wants you dead and enlisted the help of the two men I saw to make sure the deed is done.”

Any color that had returned to Mystic’s face drained away.

DRAGON’S REVENGE by Author CJ Shane

Tell us a little about Dragon’s Revenge:

When Tucson private detective and Iraq War vet Letty Valdez is hired to investigate a murder, she immediately finds herself targeted by a violent criminal. To find the killer, Letty turns to an old memoir of life in late 19th century Tucson. Clues in in the memoir, with its tale of love between two immigrants – one, an Italian widow, and the other, an exiled Chinese revolutionary – launch Letty on a suspense-filled struggle to find answers, to stop the murderer – and to stay alive!

A peek between the pages of Dragon’s Revenge:

from the memoir:

Mama agreed to sing at the rededication of the cathedral. She considered this a great honor and a spiritual responsibility. She wanted to do well to show her respect and devotion. Because of this, she began practicing every week as she had time, even though the rededication was six months away. She liked to climb a ladder up onto the flat roof of our adobe house and sing there. I asked her once why she went up on the roof.

“It’s the right place to talk to God and that’s what I’m doing when I sing. Singing here helps me to be strong.” Mama said. Mama was very religious. She talked to God a lot. She also talked to Jesus, the Virgin, and all the saints. Me, I never had much use for all that.

She was up on the roof one day when Drago came up the street with his cart. When Mama didn’t appear at our front door, he entered the gate to the side yard hoping to find her at the outdoor ovens. It was then that she began singing. Drago moved into the yard and stepped away from the adobe wall so that he could see her on the roof.

Mama stood straight upright, her long skirts moving slightly in the breeze. Her hands were clasped in front of her. She took another deep breath and out came that glorious mezzo-soprano, full and textured, subtle, rich with emotions I was too young to identify but would later know, emotions like passion and longing. Tendrils of curly dark hair escaped from the knot on her neck. Her northern Italian skin, pale like a pearl, glowed in the sunlight, and her dark eyes sparkled. My mama was a beautiful woman and she sang like an angel.

Drago stood transfixed in our garden, his hands at his side, his head bent upward to watch her. He was utterly still, utterly silent. I know this because I was hiding high in the branches of a tall mesquite tree behind him where he couldn’t see me. I was supposed to be doing my chores but I, too, liked to watch Mama when she was singing.

Drago stood for the longest time listening to Mama. I was watching Mama but when I looked at Drago, I saw that tears were running down his face.

I think that was the day that Drago fell in love with Mama, the day he first heard her sing.
