Welcome Author M. S. Spencer

M. S. Spencer Author (2)Give a warm welcome to M.S. Spencer, author of  Whirlwind Romance released on August 17, 2016!

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about M.S. and her new release.

Thank you so much for having me today, Tena.  I’ll just take one of these yummy Chocolate Chip cookies. I’d like to talk about my new release from The Wild Rose Press, Whirlwind Romance.

Up until my thirties, I traveled a great deal, living in many countries with amenities that many would consider below standard. So it wasn’t until I married and settled down in an old farmhouse with an acre of land that I could indulge my fantasy growing my own food. We planted apple, plum, peach, fig, hazelnut, and cherry trees; gooseberries, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries; all kinds of vegetables, including an ill-fated attempt to grow artichokes; and finally, lots and lots of herbs. I built a formal herb garden and planted thyme, lovage, rosemary, chives, tarragon, sage, and lemon balm. The one thing I couldn’t get to grow was mint. Yes, the gardeners among you will scoff, but it took me years to get a plot to flourish. When it did, I had to do something or it would take over the entire acre.

So I called upon my sister-in-law, to whom Whirlwind Romance is dedicated. She directed me to an old recipe for mint jelly. Once the mint invasion was under control and I’d mastered the technique, I spent whole summers working up recipes for herb jellies. It was great fun. Despite the fact that I’m not really fond of jelly, they made excellent Christmas gifts.

As I started Whirlwind Romance, I thought about what my heroine, Lacey Delahaye, would do for a living. She lives alone in Florida, her one son grown. What could she do? I thought of the innumerable ecosystems in Florida, from pine uplands, to coastal plains, to palm hammocks—all of which are host to many wild fruits, most of which can be made into jelly. Ah hah! She’d be a jelly maker.

For fun, I added the recipes to each chapter. I hope you enjoy them as much as you do Lacey and Armand’s love story.

So who is this handsome guy you brought with you?

I’m Armand.

Tells us about the real you, Armand. What event in your past has left the most indelible impression on you? I’d have to say being kidnapped by pirates.

What do you most value? My country.

What is the type of woman you want to spend the rest of your life with? Feisty, independent, loyal and of course (why not?)  beautiful.

What do you consider most important in life? To rule honorably.

What is your biggest secret? If I told you that you wouldn’t read the book.

Well, I guess that better than “If I told you, I’d have to kill you. routine.  But not by much. LOL  Only kidding.

This beautiful woman just walking in the door must be Lacey?

And you’d be right.

Great!  I love it when I’m right.  Now tell us, who are you really? Just an old-fashioned girl who likes to cook.

Who were the biggest role models in your life? An ancestor who swept the Spanish Main.

What kind of man do you want to spend the rest of your life with?   Someone who know how to clean a bathroom.

What kind of man would you never choose? A man who lies.

What is most important to you in life?  Contentment.

What is your biggest fear? To lose my son.

Totally understand that.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by and chat Lacey.

Okay, M.S. Tell us a little about writing this story.  Was it fun or difficult?

It was great fun to write—I never expected to end up somewhere in the western Caribbean though. It started as a simple island tale and grew into a swashbuckling tale of adventure and romance. This is what happens when you Google indiscriminately.

Sounds wonderful, tell us a little about the book.WhirlwindRomance_2_850

In the aftermath of a hurricane, Lacey Delahaye finds herself marooned on an island on the Gulf coast of Florida with a mysterious man. They are immediately drawn to each other, but before Armand can confess his identity, they are kidnapped and taken to a tiny island in the western Caribbean. With the help of her son Crispin and a cadre of loyal followers, she and Armand must face down pirates, power-mad ideologues, and palace intrigue, if they are to restore the once idyllic tropical island to its former glory.

Any chance we could get a sneak peek into Whirlwind Romance?

She climbed quietly, hand over hand. As she reached the last board, a soft, but menacing voice purred, “Well, my sweet, you’ve found me.”

Okay, here’s where we find out if he’s a bad guy. “Give me a hand up, will you?” Other than a slight intake of breath, he complied without a word.

Lacey’s head rose up over the floor to find a cubicle lit by a small pencil torch and cluttered with toy guns, candy bar wrappers, and crushed Dr Pepper cans. And Armand. Who took up most of the rest of the space. He still held her hand, but he had stopped pulling her. “Where did you plan to sit, on my lap?”

At least he’s toned down the threat level. “Or you could come down. I don’t think Tommy Forster allows uninvited guests in his palace.”

His jaw dropped. “Palace?” After a brief interval, he said, “Oh. I see. I can’t.”

“Can’t what?”

“Come down.”

“Why not?”

“I…I…think I reinjured the ankle. I can’t put any weight on it.”

Lacey toyed with the idea of leaving him there for little Tommy, but his mother would have been appalled. “All right, just a minute.” She climbed down and went back to her house, grabbed a coil of rope from the shed and sprinted back up the street.

“Armand?”

“At your service.”

“I’m bringing up a rope. I want you to tie it to something, then you can shimmy down without using your feet.”

“Um, what about when I get to the ground?”

How much did he say he weighed? Twelve stone? Lacey calculated swiftly. Must be over a hundred sixty pounds. “I’ll try to ease you down.” She threw the coil into the darkness and backed down the tree.

A few minutes later the rope tumbled down and Armand emerged. “For the record, this was my worst sporting event in public school.” He held on for dear life and inched down the rope. Five minutes later he’d descended a foot.

“Come on, Armand—hurry it up.”

“I’m doing my best.” By dint of a lot of swearing and some wild swinging, Armand made it into Lacey’s waiting arms. He sat on the ground, legs splayed out in front, panting. “Now what?”

Lacey hadn’t really thought that far. If he’s a fugitive, I can’t trust him. And I have no way of contacting the police. Maybe this wasn’t such a great idea. “Er, I guess we’d better get you back home. Then you can tell me what this is all about.” He didn’t argue, but when he tried to stand, he fell over. She considered the situation. “What we need is some kind of transport. Like…like…what was that thing the Indians used?” Lacey cast about for the word.

“Travois?”

“That’s it—aren’t you clever. A sort of triangular thingy to carry a wounded man. Made of logs and deerskins.” She stopped, not—as one might assume— due to the lack of readily available logs and skins, but to savor the picture in her mind. An injured warrior, lying spread-eagled before her—bare-chested, sexy, bravely enduring the pain. Wow.

Armand didn’t seem to notice her heightened color and pointed at the carport across the street. “Could we use that little red wagon?”

She followed his gaze. Story of my life—instead of Geronimo I get Ralphie. “That’ll do. Wait here.”

“Yes, I think I shall.” Armand kept a straight face. Lacey brought the little wagon to him, and he lay down in it, arms and legs hanging over the sides.

“You’ll have to lift up your extremities if this is going to work.” And so, with Armand looking like an upside down turtle and Lacey with tears of laughter streaming down her face, they staggered along the road to her house.

Mary Morgan IMG_7068 (427x640)Give a warm welcome to Mary Morgan, author of  Dragon’s Knight Ring, fifth and final in the series just released on August 12, 2016!

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Mary and her HOT Dragon Knights.

Scottish paranormal romance author, Mary Morgan resides in Northern California, with her own knight in shining armor. However, during her travels to Scotland, England, and Ireland, she left a part of her soul in one of these countries and vows to return.

It wasn’t until the closure of Borders Books where Mary worked that she found her true calling–writing romance. Now, the worlds she created in her mind are coming to life within her stories.

Tell us what  inspired this particular story?

My inspiration came to me on my first trip to Scotland in the summer of 2000. I was sitting on a boulder in the Highlands one evening, surrounded by the sound of sheep and the mists. The ghosts of long ago reached out to me, and the Dragon Knights were born within my mind.

What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block?

I don’t really get writer’s block, but I’ll go through spurts when I don’t know where the characters are going. If that happens, I’ll go out back to my garden with a leather journal and start writing down ideas or random thoughts. It’s one of the best cures for me to stir up the well of creativity, especially when I’m staring at a blinking cursor.

Do you see yourself in your characters?

Definitely! Without realizing it, I put a piece of myself in each of the heroines I’ve written. My sister pointed it out to me after the second book was released. She told me about a particular flaw the heroine kept doing, reminding her of when I do the same. I’ll share…when I get passionate about something and speak, I tend to smack my chest or wave my hand in the air. Well, so does Aileen Kerrigan in Dragon Knight’s Medallion. My sister and I had a good laugh over that one.

What do you want your readers to take away from your books?

That anyone can be redeemed. Yet, they must want to seek redemption. It’s not always an easy journey, but it is attainable, especially with love.

Tell us a little about Dragon Knight’s Ring.DragonKnightsRing_w10768_750

Death destroyed their love. Yet, can a trio of Fenian warriors roll back time to reunite two lost souls?

Crusader, Adam MacFhearguis is on one last quest to the standing stones in Scotland where he seeks to bury the past. However, a silent prayer sends him to an unknown future and to his beloved Meggie. When he uncovers a shocking revelation, Adam questions everything about the woman he thought he knew and loved. He may have traveled the veil of ages, but time is now his enemy.

Margaret MacKay lives a life in the future without the memories of her past—her death. When Adam arrives at her door confessing he knows her, she is confused and wary. With each passing day, she yearns to learn more from this stranger. Yet, when a truth is revealed, can she trust the man to unlock the chains from her mind and heart?

Will love free the bonds to unite the two lovers who were doomed centuries ago? Or will evil finally claim victory over the Dragon Knights?

Oh, that is a great tease. How about a peek into the book itself?

Meggie brushed her fingers over the leather pouch. “It feels empty.”

“Are you not tempted to take a wee look inside?”

She snatched her hand back. “I’m not peering inside the man’s belongings. As soon as he wakes, he and his horse can leave.” Giving the horse a firm pat, Meggie walked out of the stall and away from her smirking cousin—only to run smack into her other cousin, Lena.

“Blast,” snapped Meggie, grabbing her cousin by the arm to help steady them both. “Sorry, didn’t see ye,” Seeing the excitement in Lena’s eyes, she stepped back. “What?”

“I hear you have a Highlander in the guest room,” she replied, giving Meggie a wink. “Are you going to share?”

Meggie placed her hands on her hips. “He’s not my Highlander. Feel free to have him, though as soon as he wakes he’s gone from here.”

Lucas strode out of the stables, wiping his hand on a cloth. “I think I’ll go introduce myself, since I think this man bothers you. You keep stating he must leave as soon as he wakes.”

Lena pushed her cousin aside. “No, Lucas. I will go check on him.”

“Ye are both crazy,” protested Meggie. “He’s just a man.” Stepping past them both, she marched away from the stables.

Approaching the entrance of the castle, her nerves tingled and the air cooled. Halting on the gravel courtyard, she slowly glanced up at the guest bedroom window. Gazing down at her was the dark Highlander. His hands were braced on either side of the glass, and Meggie could swear for an instant, she recognized him from somewhere. A dream, perhaps? The look he gave her pierced her soul, and she shivered.

“Impossible,” she muttered. “I don’t dream. And ye are leaving now.”

Breaking from his stare, Meggie entered the castle, almost running up the stairs. By the time she reached the guest room, her hands were shaking. Not even bothering to knock, she pushed open the door and stormed inside.

Her mouth became dry, unable to form the words to order this giant out of her home. His bulk blocked the light from the window as he leaned against the ledge staring at her. She was not one prone to swoon at men—any man, but this one made her a jumbled mess. Moving to the table, she picked up his sword and took it over to him. His eyes widened as she approached and she fell into their dark blue depths.

“I…um…” she stammered before continuing. “Ye should leave.” There, she got the words out.

Instead of reaching for his sword, the man lifted two fingers and caressed her cheek. She gasped, the touch searing her skin, and she took a step back. She could see the look of shock pass over his features, as if he felt the same reaction.

Meggie shoved the sword into his arms and ran for the door. Yet, when her hand touched the handle, she heard him speak.

“Dinnae leave me again, Meggie.”

Whew what great excerpt.  I can’t wait to read Dragon’s Knight Ring.  Unfortunately, I haven’t finished the others, so another to be read out of order.  Story of my life. LOL

Welcome Author Anna Durand

Give a warm welcome to  Anna Durand, author of  the Dangerous In A Kilt.  Well, where is Anna?  Looking around the only person I see is a HOT Scot (fanning self).

Now who might you be?DIK-cover800

“Lachlan MacTaggart.  I believe Anna is on her way, asked me to step in for at bit.”

Oh, oh, you’re the hero from Dangerous In A Kilt. Okay,  lets have a chat, while we wait for Anna.  Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip, Peanutbutter or Snickerdoodle cookie from the plate, and let’s find out  what makes this hero tick.

Lachlan MacTaggart, Tell us about the real you—

What event in your past has left the most indelible impression on you? Och, you ask hard questions, woman! I don’t enjoy thinking about it, my failed marriage and the…things that happened. It haunts me to this day.

What do you most value? Family means everything to me. My brothers can be irritating, and my sisters poke their noses into my business, but I love them anyway.

What is the type of woman you want to spend the rest of your life with? Ah…Another difficult one. Part of me wants nothing to do with forever, but since I met Erica, I’m torn. She’s smart, she makes me laugh, and yet she’s vulnerable enough to make me long to protect her. She could be a true partner in life, the only kind of woman who might change my mind about love.

What do you consider most important in life? Respect for others. I can’t abide bullies or those who would bend another to their will just for the sake of control.

What is your biggest secret? Well now, if I told you that it wouldn’t be a secret, lass. Besides, I can’t have Erica finding out about my worst mistake. How could she ever respect me again?

Thanks for being here Lachlan and answering the HARD questions.  I guess Anna got hung up. If you don’t want to run into Erica, you might want to exit out the back door. Quickly.

The Hot Scot moves faster than I believed possible out the back entrance, and in the nick of time!

Well, well, would you look who just walked in.  Welcome, Erica! Have a seat, grab a drink and there’s a few cookies left. Let’s find out a little about you.

Who were the biggest role models in your life? My parents. They taught me right from wrong and to believe in myself–though sometimes I forget that little lesson.

What kind of man do you want to spend the rest of your life with? Ugh, I don’t have the best track record with picking guys. But more than anything I want a man who’s strong but compassionate, has a great sense of humor, never lies to me, and–of course–loves my dog. Starting to sound a bit like someone I just met…

What kind of man would you never choose? The kind who sweet talks you until you can’t see straight, but underneath, he’s just a liar.

What is most important to you in life? Freedom. I may not have it much longer, seeing as I’m charged with embezzlement, so I intend to seize what little I have left to me.

What is your biggest fear? Picking another sleazebag like Presley Cichon. I fell for his honeyed words and got whacked upside the head for it. I never want to make that mistake again.

AnnaDurandFinally, Anna, do you have any idea how close I came to having Lachlan and Erica in the studio at the same time?  Not that it would have matter much, but Erica sure wouldn’t have answered my questions.  I’d offer you a cold drink, but your characters drank them all and Lachlan ate all the cookies but two and Erica ate those, sorry.  But thanks for stopping by. Do you have time for a question or two?

“I’m really behind, but yes, I’ll make time for one.”

Anna, Tell us a little about writing Dangerous in a Kilt.  Was it fun or difficult?  Do your characters always act as you expect? Are you a plotter, or fly (write) by the seat of your pants?

This story came to life in a roundabout way. I’d begun researching Scottish history for a planned historical romance, but when I realized how long the research would take, I decided in the meantime I’d write a different kind of Scottish hero–in a contemporary erotic romance. I also resurrected the underground club from Tempted by a Kiss and set key parts of Dangerous in a Kilt in that club, because I loved the atmosphere of it. I had a great time writing this book! I poured all my passion for writing into the story, creating characters I didn’t want to say goodbye to at the end and a scorching love story I never wanted to finish.

Oh, I totally understand and Lachlan is hot! Whew!

Anna Durand is an award-winning writer specializing in steamy romances populated with spunky heroines and hunky heroes, in settings as diverse as modern Chicago and the fairy realm. Her romances have to date won eight awards and her novel Intuition was a 2016 RONE Award nominee, while her short story Tempted by a Kiss was a finalist in The Romance Reviews 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards. Dangerous in a Kilt won first place in the 2016 Great Beginnings contest, contemporary romance category.

Cover Reveal for An Angel’s Song!

SharonSaracinoToday I have another treat for you.  This one from author Sharon Saracino.  The cover reveal for An Angel’s Song, a paranormal romance, fourth in the Earthbound Series.

Award winning author, Sharon Saracino, was born and raised in beautiful Northeastern Pennsylvania. Always the girl with her nose in a book, and frequently announced that someday she was going to write a one. One milestone birthday (we won’t discuss which one!) she decided someday would be here and gone if she didn’t get her butt in gear.  She plans to win the lottery just as soon as she remembers to purchase a ticket,  fantasizes about moving to Italy, brews limoncello, and believes there’s always magic to be found if you only take the time to look for it!

Where to find Sharon Saracino:

I convinced her to give us a sneak peek of An Angel’s Song even though she is still waiting on a release date for the book:AnAngelsSong_w11085_med

After ten years of separation, Tessa and Alec are called to the deathbed of Tessa’s father and tasked with solving a mystery that points to WWII, the Nazi régime, and the shadowy world of the Djinn. Although their passion still burns, forgiveness requires more than desire.

Alec, the Riddle King to the Defensori, is used to shutting out the world and working on his puzzles alone. But this time, he can’t shut Tessa out. This time, he needs his estranged wife’s help. Tessa and her gift hold the key, and failure could cost her sanity…or her life.

Insecurity, immaturity, and misunderstanding drove them apart. Can they rebuild their shattered trust and work together to rescue a captive Djinni, stay one step ahead of the servants of the Fallen, and save their marriage along with Tessa’s life?

How about an Excerpt?

“Tessa…” he stepped toward her and held out a hand.

“Don’t you touch me,” she warned, taking a quick step back, eyeing him warily.

Okay, so maybe he’d been an oblivious jackass. Hardly the first time, but maybe it showed progress if he’d noticed without someone else pointing it out?

“Look, I could have warned you, but frankly it just never occurred to me. You’ve had a long night, and you’re tired and hurting. I get it. I’m not happy about this, but believe it or not, I really am trying to help. I’m not the bad guy here.”

“Meaning I am?” She spat, stepping right up toe to toe, crossing her arms over her chest, and craning her neck to look directly into his face. “I fly thousands of miles, watch my father die, and then, before I can even process what that means, I am grabbed by you, of all people, and spirited off against my will without so much as a by-your-leave. And you have the audacity to stand there and tell me you’re not happy about this?”

Alec decided he definitely preferred angry Tessa. Her eyes deepened to the swirling blue of an angry sea and her chest heaved, straining the buttons of the wrinkled white blouse and thrusting her high breasts against the thin fabric. With her bright eyes snapping, red-gold curls tumbling over her shoulders, and her cheeks hot and flushed, pissed or not, she was freakin’ magnificent.

Cover Art by Debbie Taylor from DCA Graphics

Don’t you love the cover? The talented Debbie Taylor does it again!  Paranormal Romance, a Genre close to my heart.

Thanks Sharon.  Best of luck with An Angel’s Song!
