Charm Me, for Valentine’s Day-Sunday Snippet

Before I share this week’s Sunday Snippet Charm Me, I’d like to share a few fun Valentine’s Day Facts:

A few fun Valentine’s Day Facts.

15% of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine’s Day.

73% of people who buy flowers for Valentine’s Day are men, while only 27 percent are women.

Did you know that approximately one billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. That’s the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.

About 3% of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets.  Ok, I admit that I’m one of those people. But your pet’s unconditional love everyday of the year is worth it.  Don’t you think?IMG_0241

Cupid, another symbol of Valentines Day, became associated with it because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine cards holding a bow and arrows because he is believed to use magical arrows to inspire feelings of love.

In Wales, wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes are favorite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, “You unlock my heart!”

Only the U.S., Canada, Mexico, France, Australia and the U.K. celebrate Valentine’s Day.

As you know, I am a paranormal romance and cozy mystery writer    For me crafting a romance is all about RESPECT, TRUST and LOVE, always with a touch of magic. I want to create a memorable love story with spice and adventure.  Characters that will grab hold of your heart and hang on long after you’ve read the last word and closed the book with a satisfied sigh, sorry to see the story end.

Looking for a fun and flirty Valentines Day gift in ebook or audobook?  CHARM ME is the perfect answer! To sweeten the pot, e-book on SALE for 99 Cents for a limited time.

CHARM ME is a Candy Hearts Romance. My publishing house, THE WILD ROSE PRESS did a call for stories surrounding the sayings on little candy hearts available around Valentine’s Day. I love those things, especially the SweetTart version. You remember those, right?  Sounded like fun. I chose Charm Me obviously. LOL

At the time, I was taking a concealed carry permit class as well as taking my dog, Mystic, to agility classes. These two activities actually formed the story.

In Mystic’s class there was a yoga instructor with her dog. She had just purchased a yoga studio. An idea popped into to head the next night on the way to CCP class, what if a yoga instructor met a gun club owner and hit it off? Talk about an unlikely pair. Huh?

Since I write paranormal romance I stirred in a little magic creating the yoga instructor, Summer, as an elemental witch. And well, gun club owner, Devlin has secrets of his own.  Set in Colorado Springs and Divide, Colorado, Charm Me was born.  This fun and flirty Candy Hearts Romance makes the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Available in e-book and audio book.

What’s Charm Me about?

Summer Dawn Riley’s an extraordinary elemental witch whose troubled past haunts her. She’s created a calm life for herself teaching yoga and keeping people at a distance. Her life takes a one eighty degree turn when she enrolls in a women’s weapons class and meets ruggedly handsome Devlin Sawyer.

Devlin, a former Navy Seal, has sworn off women after two long-term failed relationships, but there is no denying his attraction to Summer. She intrigues him like no other woman ever has. Despite her attempts to ignore him, Summer is drawn to Devlin. His magic signature is strong, but he’s no warlock. Will Valentine’s Day magic find them a future together?

A peek between the pages of Charm Me:

The corner of her mouth turned up in a half smile. “Witches talents are varied, spell casters, potions experts, seers, you get the picture.”

Bits and pieces of the dream fluttered through is mind.  “What about dream weaving?” He asked, voice calm as he stole another sideways glance and shot her an encouraging smile.

She narrowed her eyes. “Why do you ask?”

“Just curious.” He shrugged and turned his attention to the road.  Clouds obscured the sun and large fluffy snowflakes fell on the windshield and melted.

“Its a ability I’ve only heard about,” she replied, eyes narrowed.

One brow raised, he asked, “You don’t happen to have a fairy tat on your lower back?”

“How do you know that?” she demanded.

“I believe we shared a dream early this morning.” I would have loved to spent more time in that dream.

“That’s impossible.”

He glanced over at her again and her entire face and neck were red. “Really? The dream was sensual, but the fleeting scenes–I didn’t understand at the time but tried to comfort you.  They make sense now. The ash was the vampire. You lit her up?”

Summer opened and shut her mouth several times then stammered, “How is that possible. How can you be so… about her demise?”

“Nothing wrong with protecting your own in my book. Magic creatures live and die by a different set of rules than regular people.

A Witch’s Holiday Wedding – Sunday Snippet

As some of you may have noticed, or not, I’ve been sorta MIA on social media for about three months. My hubby retired in November of 2023. We finally got to take the RV road trip we’d been planning for years. So places we landed had wifi and internet, some places didn’t. So… did the best we could with what we had which was sadly inadequate. Good news is that we are back home and will be posting over several weeks about our three-month grand adventure from Colorado through Kansas, Missouri, down south to Mississippi, Georgia, across to North Carolina, and on up New England to Maine with numerous stops in between on my facebook page. We encountered tornadoes, was chased by hurricanes, it was an adventure! We loved every minute of the trip.  Please feel free to check it out in the near future at https://www.facebook.com/tena.stetler/ Now I return to you to this week’s Sunday Snippet.

Yippee!! #SundaySnippet presents A Witch’s Holiday Wedding #paranormalromance #fantasy #adventure.  Set in the small town of Lobster Cove and 2nd in the Witch’s Journey Series with some of the same characters, plus new ones you’re going to love. Torn in too many directions, with a covert military mission thrown in, will Pepper and Lathen make it to the alter?

I had so much fun writing this book. With ghosts running amuck spilling family secrets and making roses bloom in the dead of winter. The werewolf pack creating havoc ever where they went. Then there is the matter of the military mission. It’s a wonder Pepper and Lathen didn’t elope. But they didn’t, so pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and come along for the hilarious ride of A Witch’s Holiday Wedding.   Go ahead you, know you want to, grab a copy and join the #magical #fantasy, #adventure today! You’ll be so glad you did.

What is A Witch’s Holiday Wedding all about?

Elemental witch, Pepper McKay and former Navy SEAL, Lathen Quartz have built Lobster Cove Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on enchanted McKay land. During a romantic interlude on Halloween night, Pepper happily agrees to become Lathen’s wife. What better day than Winter Solstice for their wedding in a town that loves celebrations and Christmas. However, planning a wedding and operating their wildlife center takes a toll on both Pepper and Lathen.

When the couple takes a much-needed break for Thanksgiving with family in Colorado, a Maine snowstorm fills the center with injured wildlife. Lathen finds himself drawn into a covert military mission, while trying to deal with issues concerning friends and family. Pepper wants to cancel the wedding. Is she having second thoughts? Will the nosy McKay ghosts, Lathen’s werewolf pack, Pepper’s parents, and her best friend help or hinder the wedding and holiday plans?

Sneak peek between the pages of A Witch’s Holiday Wedding

After she set her glass down, Lathen brushed a couple strands of hair out of her eyes and searched her face. “Are you all right?”

“I’m tired, my wedding is in a couple weeks, I have ghosts fighting over who is going to do what. Guests that have no idea the place is haunted and… Your family and pack, my parents, Gwen… To top it all off, the head of my clan, who is a ghost, is sitting in front of me wanting to know who is coming to the wedding and whether the ghosts will be outed. How could I possibly be all right?”

“When you put it that way.” Lathen chuckled. “It sounds just a bit… I don’t know…crazy?” His right eyebrow winged up. She saw mischief sparkle in his eyes. “We could still elope,” he offered.

“No sir. Not after all the trouble—Not on me watch.” Aidan shook his head so vehemently his upper torso blurred.

Pepper smiled, glanced at Lathen. “What do you think—about twenty-five to fifty close friends and family at the ceremony?”

“I doubt the pack will be there, they’ll be more interested in the food and tall-tale telling at the reception. Not to mention questioning why the dinner wasn’t before the ceremony. So you are close on that count.” He snatched the wine glass from the table and took a gulp.

“The seating area should be at the end of the pond by the benches. Ashling mentioned purple rose bushes around the pond. Lathen and I are going to get the arbor first thing in the morning, weather permitting.”

Lathen’s stomach gurgled. “You know the timer for the meat pies went off a while ago.” He glanced toward the kitchen. “Want me to go get them?”

“Oh crap, I forgot. They’ll be ruined, all dried out.” She thought for a moment then waved her hand toward the kitchen. “They’ll be fine.”

“I’ve got what’s needed.” Aidan rose from the chair, lifted his hand in a wave and faded away, the mist crawling along the floor disappeared entirely.

“Never a dull moment around here.” Lathen took the tray of pies from Pepper and set it on the coffee table. The silverware clattered as he slipped the napkins out from under them, inhaling deeply. “I’m starved.”

“Marrying a McKay witch may be more than you bargained for,” she teased. “Too late to change your mind.”

“Don’t intend to.” He forked up a bite of meat pie, blew on it for a minute as the steam rose, and popped it in his mouth. “Mmmmm. Delicious! Life with a witch can be quite satisfying. If you know what I mean.” He wiggled his eyebrows.

A Warlock’s Secrets – Sunday Snippet

Welcome to Sunday Snippet! Today we are talking about A WARLOCK’S SECRETS, the second book in the award-winning A Demon’s Witch Series.

A Warlock’s Secrets  wasn’t a planned part of  A Demon’s Witch Series. It came to fruition after several readers and a couple of reviewers asked or assumed Tristian’s story was next in the Demon’s Witch Series.

In truth, I’d never considered writing Tristian’s story. He was the Demon Overlords enforcer/assassin, for heaven’s sake. The hardest part of writing this book was wrapping my head around who Tristian really was and what he wanted out of life.  He challenged me at every turn of the story. After delving into who he really is and what he wants, come to find out, he has a strong moral compass. He basically is the paranormal police for the Western Hemisphere. Enforcement is necessary to keep a balance between mortals and creatures which he learned young due to the death of his parents and having to raise his little sister. When love comes his way he is fiercely protective and everything Hannah is looking for in a forever relationship. A Warlock’s Secrets, second book in the Demon’s Witch Series. Join in the adventure and grab your copy today!  Available worldwide at  Amazon,KoboBarnes & Nobleitunes, and  Walmart.com.  If you’re in the United Kingdom, Amazon UK, or Australia, Amazon.AU. or Canada  Amazon CA.

Often I’ve been asked why I write paranormal romance.  Since I was old enough to read, I loved being swept away into a fantasy. Whether is was a trip to Mars, pretending I could wield magic with the characters in a book, or chasing a unicorn across the backyard only to find myself face to face with a vampire, my imagination ran wild with the written word. As I got older, if I didn’t like a part of the book or  the way a story ended, I’d rewrite it.  Oh what adventures Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew had under my rewritten sections. LOL

Now  I hope to encourage readers to leave your ordinary world behind for a few hours… be swept away into a magical romantic fantasy with a touch of mystery and suspense.  It’s good for the soul and stress relieving to suspend reality for a while, whether you are reading or writing novels. <grin>

A little about A WARLOCK’S SECRETS – Years ago, a sacred ceremony at the Dragon’s Moon Coven turned deadly. Son of the high priestess, Tristian Shandie’s life changed forever. With a price on his head and revenge in his heart, he has no choice but to follow in his father’s footsteps to a profession shrouded in secrets. Now his skills as an enforcer for the Demon Overlord are second to none. But dangerous secrets he harbors are a liability he can no longer afford.

A chance meeting with a woman he finds irresistible flips Tristian’s world upside down. Hannah is a cyber security specialist with secrets of her own. Bad boys never appealed to her until Tristian, who changes everything. In his darkest hours, she is dragged into his magical world.

If they survive, is she strong enough to heal his heart and tame the warlock? Or will their secrets destroy them?

A peek between the pages of A WARLOCK’S SECRETS:

Panic set in, her brain wouldn’t engage and her mouth took off on its own. “I..I didn’t mean to wwake you.  Only wanted to apologize for whatever I said the other night that pissed you off,” she stammered.” God — Can I embarrass myself anymore? Her cheeks felt like they were on fire as she whirled away from him in an attempt to compose herself.  When she turned around, he’d leaned one shoulder against the doorframe, crossed his arms over his sculptured chest, but his smoldering gaze over her body should have incinerated the clothes she was wearing.

Resting her hand on her hip she tilted her chin up, her gaze met his. “Like what you see?” Oh my god, where did that come from?  Her hand flew to her mouth again. “Anyway, I’m sorry.” She turned and sprinted down the steps.  By the time she reached her car, he was leaning nonchalantly against her driver’s side door. “How did you do that?”

“Practice.” He blinked at her. “Why don’t you come in and have a cup of coffee, obviously you are having caffeine withdrawals. I warmed up a couple of cinnamon rolls and apple fritters.  Would you like one?”   Not waiting for an answer, he sauntered up the steps.

Her knees went weak, she licked her lips.

“Coming?”

“No…. I have to go,” she stammered. “I was on my way home after a run.  But thanks for the invitation.”

“Suit yourself.”  He strolled through the doorway and paused turned back to peer at her. “Sure?”

Her stomach growled loudly. Traitorous organ.  “Maybe just a bite and a big cup of coffee.” She plodded up the stairs and followed him into the kitchen filled with the aroma of warm cinnamon and apples.

A little tidbit about the inspiration for this story.  As you know from an early age, I’ve been involved with animal/wildlife rescue.  Some people, my late mother, best friend, and husband claim I like animals better than humans.  Which isn’t quite true. I love meeting new people, I’m just wary.  Once you’ve earned the trust of an animal, pet or rescue, it’s unconditional forever.  “You are forever responsible for that which you have tamed.” A motto I try to live up to everyday.  Trinity and Paul are in need of unconditional love. In this story, they get what they need and discover that trust and love can heal all.

Perfect for a #beachread  Join the #fantasy#adventure, download a copy or two today! Psst… available in audiobook too!

What is Chocolate Raspberry Magic all about?

Prim and proper Trinity Shilo is the assistant manager for Salem’s Wildlife Sanctuary. She hasn’t had much luck in the boyfriend department, but the new employee Paul is different. Deep and brooding she sees something special hidden below the surface. Besides she has secrets of her own.

Paul Thorp is a wounded Special Forces veteran now working in security and computer support. He’s fought hard to keep his demons in check and for the first time feels he is ready for a real relationship.

When a fire breaks out at Puffin Cove Rescue they are called in to help with the recovery and ice cream social fundraiser. Sometimes things are not what they seem, and neither are people. When magic is unleashed will what they learn bring them closer together or push them apart?

Sneak peek between the pages of Chocolate Raspberry Magic:

As Trinity walked through the aftermath of the fire, she lifted the yellow and black caution tape and carefully stepped inside the building. Her gut clenched and that feeling of foreboding washed over her again. The farther she ventured into the burnt building the stronger the gut-wrenching feeling became. Something needs my help. This was a new sensation. She took a small flashlight out of her backpack, directed the beam over the scorched debris, and moved the rubble with her toe. Nothing.

One more sweep of the light and she’d return to the others. Probably not supposed to be here anyway. A weak squawk emanated from the far corner of the building. Picking up a scorched stick, she poked at the debris. A puff of smoke rose as she made her way to where the sound came from. Shining the light into the corner, she saw movement. She knelt down and carefully shifted the charred rubble. Laying on its side, head slightly raised, and using a wing in an attempt to right itself was a small parrot. Its little eyes locked on her for a moment before its head lowered to the ground.

Frantically, she glanced around, but there was no one in sight. How far had she ventured without telling anyone? The structure overhead groaned in warning. No time. “Okay little one, it’s you and me. I don’t have much experience at this, but I’ll do my best.” Shrugging out of her backpack, she unzipped it completely. “I’m going to scoop you up in my backpack and get help.” She didn’t raise her voice to call for help for fear of scaring the poor thing.

Clearing as much debris away from the bird as possible, she scooped up the parrot in her bag. Slowly she stood, so as not to jostle the little creature. Holding the bag gently against her chest, she picked her way across the downed wooden braces, charred remnants of cabinetry, and broken glass.

“Trinity, Trinity, where are you?” Paul’s worried voice pierced the air.

“Over here,” she called with relief directing the flashlight beam toward his voice. The wind shifted the burnt skeleton of the building emitting a squeeing sound of swaying twisted, wet wood. This section of the structure was in danger of collapsing.

“What the hell are you doing here? I’ve been searching all over for you. Didn’t you see the “Do Not Enter” caution tape?”

“I guess.”

“You guess?!” He grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a little shake, then pulled her against him. “You scared me half to death.”

His concern was palpable as she braced the palm of her hand against his hard chest to keep him from further injuring the bird in her bag and as reassurance. Paul’s heart was beating like a trip hammer. Her gaze searched his face. Did the scent of charred earth and sight of destruction all around pull him into the black hole of PTSD? No I won’t let it happen. He has to help me get this bird to safety.
