A peek between the pages of A Witch’s Holiday Wedding

After she set her glass down, Lathen brushed a couple strands of hair out of her eyes and searched her face. “Are you all right?”

“I’m tired, my wedding is in a couple weeks, I have ghosts fighting over who is going to do what. Guests that have no idea the place is haunted and… Your family and pack, my parents, Gwen… To top it all off, the head of my clan, who is a ghost, is sitting in front of me wanting to know who is coming to the wedding and whether the ghosts will be outed. How could I possibly be all right?”

“When you put it that way.” Lathen chuckled. “It sounds just a bit… I don’t know…crazy?” His right eyebrow winged up. She saw mischief sparkle in his eyes. “We could still elope,” he offered.

Thank you for stopping by! Stay safe and have a happy holiday season! Don’t forget to wash you hands!

#L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge.  Reason Why I Stopped Reading a Series I Loved.

Welcome to #L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge 4-29-20.  Reason Why I Stopped Reading a Series I Loved. Wow, this one is easy.  Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and grab a chocolate chip cookie. Lets get started with Why I Stopped Reading a Series I Loved.

First series that comes to mind is the Shannara Chronicles Series consisting of The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara by Terry Books.  In particular The Elfstones of Shannara was the reason I stopped reading the series.  In the book there is this small fuzzy creature that I simply loved.  Terry Books had the audacity to kill off the creature toward the end of the book. I was so furious that I threw the book across the room and it crashed into the wall. HARD! This was at two in the morning. Woke my hubby out of a sound sleep. I never read another book of Terry Brooks.  Why? I didn’t trust he wouldn’t do such a thing again.  Now, I happen to know that I am not the only reader Terry Books pissed off due to killing that creature.  How do I know this other than talking to other readers? Because…. he has been known to start his interviews, appearances, and signings by apologizing for killing off that fuzzy creature in The Elfstones of Shannara.  Must have had an impact. LOL I know I wrote and told him about it.

****

Another reason would be, and I not going to name names or titles. Once the books become a boilerplate and the plot is nearly the same with different characters, doing nearly the same things in the same place, I mark that author and his/her books off my TRB list.

****.

Well, the other obvious reason you would quit reading a series you loved is that the series ended. Sad situation but it happens. LOL

So there you have it, Reason Why I Stopped Reading a Series I Loved. I’d love to hear from you.  Tell me why you stopped reading a series you loved. List them in the comments below.

Alas, I must return to my writing cave  where deadlines loom on a new WIP (very exciting and coming along very well) so let’s see what other authors list as their reasons.  L&SR

CHARM ME AGAIN is a paranormal romance/mystery set in the Colorado Rockies with a Scottish Highland Ghost that won’t go away and Fae Warriors that try to save the day. Not to mention the enchanted blacksmith tools that are at the root of one problem. The ancient curse is a whole nother problem.

For several months a Scottish Highland Ghost has haunted Daylan, in his personal life, his professional life and at his forge. Yet, being a talented warlock, he is no closer to discovering what the ghost wants or why he chose Daylan. A trip to his estranged sister’s home in Colorado may have unforeseen consequences especially when family history leads him to a shocking discovery.

As his attraction blooms for Josie, a yoga instructor in his sister’s studio, he realizes there may be more to Josie than he can imagine. When an ancient rogue Fae Warrior set on revenge kidnaps her in an attempt to claim her as his own, a devastating curse comes to light.

Daylan’s world spirals out of control as he searches for Josie. Can he break the age old curse to save her and their future, or will she be lost to him forever?

A Sneak Peek into Charm Me Again!

Four striking creatures, sharp-angled features with fierce expressions on their inhumanly handsome faces appeared. Gleaming swords hung at their sides as they slipped out of the cloud and stepped onto the ground not more than fifty feet from her and Daylan along the tree line of the property. Holy shit. This can’t be happening.

She rubbed her eyes but when she opened them the men were still there. Dressed in heavy boots, jeans, and formfitting leather vests, shimmering silver bands adorned their muscular upper arms. Two of them had thick shoulder length blond hair, the others had jet black hair hanging in waves past their shoulders.

She jumped up and opened her mouth to scream. But Daylan reacted faster clapping his hand over her mouth while still facing the advancing creatures. To her surprise, a soft giggle escaped from her lips. They look like a group of medieval bikers. Their apparent leader, his reddish sable hair hung well beyond his shoulders in waves, paused a few yards in front of them.

The others flanked the leader in a V formation. Her heart beat a tattoo against her chest. The vision taking place in front of her wavered and spun. I will not pass out. I will not faint. I absolutely will not. She pried Daylan’s hand away and sucked in a deep breath then blew it out slowly.

The wind settled down to a light breeze that flipped strands of her hair over her face and eyes. Raising a hand, she brushed the hair out of her face and licked her lips nervously.

In the distance a door banged, a dog growled, then eerie silence prevailed.

“You can see the Fae, the cloud, and feel the change in temperature?” Daylan whispered, his voice tinged with surprise.

Everything snapped into focus and she nodded her eyes went wide. “Fae?” I’ve lost it. This isn’t happening. For god sakes one of them has a pointed ear sticking through his hair.

Thanks for popping in. I really appreciate it. Next week, May 6th, Favorite Holiday of the Year and Why.  Boy that’s easy peasy! Anyone that knows me at all can identify my answer. What is your favorite holiday of the year and why?

A Glimmer of Ghosts by Hunter J. Skye

Give a warm welcome to Hunter J. Skye, author of Glimmer of Ghosts!

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Hunter J. Skye and A Glimmer of Ghosts! But first, Hunter has shared a great guest post with us. Enjoy!

The Lady with the Fruit Hat

Someone asked me recently if I’ve had any experiences with ghosts. My immediate response was, “How much time do you have.” But it got me thinking, maybe I should write them down. I looked back at my experiences from toddler age on and was shocked at how many encounters with the otherworldly I’ve actually had. Some of them were brushes with pretty unwholesome stuff. It makes me wonder if I might have a bit of divine protection.

Not all entities out there are bad- thank goodness. I discovered that fact when was three years old. I recall that my parents had packed up the car because we were going somewhere. My brother, who is five years older than me, was already sitting in the back seat. For some reason, I had to make one last trip into the house before we set off.

I remember very clearly walking back into the house and seeing a beautiful older African-American woman with fruit on her hat. She was leaning over with her arms stretched wide waiting for a hug. She was smiling from her very soul. I can still feel the sense of love emanating from her.

I’m not sure what happened next, but I went back to the car, climbed inside, and told me parents about the “nice lady with the fruit on her hat”. They looked shocked. I learned later that my brother had mentioned a nice lady in the house when he was that age. They remembered the description he’d given of the hat she wore with fruit on it.

I don’t know if that was a ghost attached to my parents first house. We did move that year to their permanent home. Maybe I remember the event so well because it was moving day and the ghost was just trying to say goodbye. Part of me hopes that the Lady with the Fruit Hat is a wandering entity that visits all children at that age. Or, maybe she’s my spirit guide. Whatever the explanation of her existence may be, I feel blessed and glad to have that memory.

I’d love it if your visitors would leave their ghostly encounters in the comments. I like a good chill down the spine.

Hunter J. Skye is a high-functioning square peg, which turns out to be a prerequisite for writing quirky urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Her debut novel, A Glimmer of Ghosts, has won four Romance Writers of America awards.
When not typing away on her next novel, Hunter can be found cracking nerdy jokes or waxing existential over a bowl of spaghetti.
She firmly believes this world is ready for a narcoleptic heroine.
One thing about the story:
Many of the spirits appearing in A Glimmer of Ghosts are based on actual ghost stories from the Olde Towne district of Portsmouth, Virginia. Once a year, these stories are told on the city’s annual Halloween Ghost Walk. These apparitions are well known to the residents of Olde Towne, Portsmouth and the city considers them ambassadors of a sort. One such ghost, Colonel William Crawford, founded the town three hundred years ago and is the inspiration for Grayford- Melisande’s haunting lover.
One thing about me:
In 2016 Hunter Skye was diagnosed with a rare REM sleep disorder that mimics the presence of other-worldly entities. In her search for a coping mechanism, Hunter adopted a new life plan- “when life gives you ghosts, write a ghost story.” Now that those specters are on the payroll, everyone is much happier.
Hunter has a Bachelor of the Fine Arts and has won four Romance Writers of America awards pre-publication for her debut novel, A Glimmer of Ghosts. Worldwide release is 2/19/20.

Celia’s Holiday Caramel Candy
I love to share this recipe every
year for the December holidays. We have my Grandma Eddie to thank for this
classic treat. Enjoy!
1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened
Condensed Milk
2 cups white sugar
2 cups white Karo Syrup
1 stick of butter (1/4 lb.)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix together the first three
ingredients (milk, sugar, syrup) in a large bowl.
Melt the butter in a large heavy
kettle, pour in the mixture and bring to a boil.
Stir continuously while mixture
boils until it reaches the temperature of 245 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy
thermometer (can take up to 25 minutes).
Note: If mixture overcooks, candy
gets too hard.
Once the 245 degree temperature
is reached, remove kettle from stove.
Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
extract, then pour mixture onto a large buttered cookie sheet or flat pan.
Allow to cool.
When cool, cut candy into squares
and wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper.
And try not to eat them all
before you do! Makes a delicious holiday gift!

Haven:

Alexander plastered me against
the side of his car and slanted his lips over mine. Time stopped. My fucking
heart stopped, then thundered so loud in my ears I thought the world exploded
around us. This is what I’d missed, what I craved. This man, these lips. I
groaned. His tongue swept over my lips demanding entrance and I caved, allowing
him in. He growled, a hungry, sexy as sin growl as his tongue plundered my
mouth, taking, tasting, demanding ownership all over again. I let him, taking
all he had to give.

Origins:
The car stopped.
I couldn’t convince myself to step out. What if this was a freaking,
injection-induced hallucination? What if I was still back in the damn prison?
Besnik helped me
out.
The mansion’s
mammoth double doors eased open. The man illuminated in the doorway chased away
the numbness, pumped my heart so hard it might pound right out of my chest. He
opened his arms wide, calling me. My lips curled upward in the first true smile
I’d cracked since the last time he’d held me in his arms. That man, my man,
loved me more than any other on this whole damn planet.
“Alexander.”
I ran to him.
Alexander’s arms
closed around me, his hold so tight I could barely catch a breath. Tremors ran
through his hard body, again and again.
“Carina,” he
croaked, voice sandpaper rough. “Carina.”
Nuzzling his
neck, I planted fevered kisses along his tan, heated skin. He’d fed recently to
be this warm under my lips. Temptation had me licking his pounding pulse,
nipping at the vein. Couldn’t resist it. My fangs slid home.
Energy exploded
between us, our mate bond bursting to life and tearing away whatever magical
wall had separated us for far too long. My bite, the catalyst, his blood the
cure. Awash in the force of our reunion, Alexander staggered then clutched me
closer while I pulled out of his neck and laved the rapidly healing holes.
As our power
continued to bubble and stitch us back together, he whisked us into the grand
entryway, planted my ass on an ornate, antique cabinet, and devoured my mouth
like a starving man. His hands roamed everywhere, searching, cataloguing, as if
to reassure himself this wasn’t a hallucination, that I was really here, in his
arms, relatively unharmed.
The more he
kissed me, the more those wonderful, golden threads of our connection
resurrected inside me, around me, between us, and I felt like freaking Sleeping
Beauty awakened from her magical slumber by a kiss from her fated handsome
prince. The silly thought made me giggle against Alexander’s seeking mouth, and
then I was crying while my love cupped my face between his hands, wiped away my
tears with his thumbs, and pressed tender kisses to my forehead, my cheeks, the
tip of my nose…
“Alexander.” I
fisted his shirt tight. Please, God, let him be real. “I… I don’t want to wake
up.” Please, don’t let this end.
His smoky blue
eyes bored into mine, his brown hair spiked in every direction, a bit longer
than in my memory. It’s not a dream, baby. You’re here. You’re home.
Oh my God, I can
hear you. I swiped some willful bits of hair away from his forehead, touched
his full lips, ran my fingers along his strong jaw, taking in the whole
handsome, bad-boy package. You’re back in my head. I’d never been happier to
have someone inside my mind. Silence was seriously overrated.
And back in your
arms.
