A little about Security Force of Two:

Miacoh Zane, a Special Forces veteran, returns to Aspen Ridge, Colorado a small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains, to settle his beloved grandmother’s estate. But the town holds painful memories and family secrets he wants to leave behind for good.

Candle Bearclaw, a gifted computer analyst/programmer with talents she’s buried when recruited out of college by the CIA. After fifteen years, she abruptly resigns her position with the agency. She returns to her sleepy hometown only to discover her childhood crush has also returned and a violent crime has been committed.

Due to their covert operations experience, Candle and Miacoh are thrown together to assist Homeland Security, FBI, and her father, former chief of police, with a murder investigation. As they search for the perpetrators, will their secrets be revealed as the investigation takes an unusual twist that could blow the case wide open.

A new peek between the pages of Security Force of Two: New Hook

Candle barely got into the truck, and Miacoh closed her door when her cell phone rang. “Hello.”

“An agent from Homeland Security is making inquiries about you. Candle, what are you mixed up in now?”  Mark, her ex-handler’s voice boomed through the phone’s speaker.

Miacoh took the leash from Candle, clipped it on Terrabyte, allowing Candle privacy for her phone call. She smiled and mouthed the words thank you as he closed the door and sprinted towards the trees, with Terra leading the way.

“First of all, Mark, I’m not your concern anymore. Remember, I resigned. I have no idea why Homeland Security would be looking for me. I haven’t had time to address the subject we discussed last time we met.” Candle calmly shoved the letter topic to the back of her mind. She’d deal with it later.

“The only thing I could get out of the agent was that his business with you had something to do with a traffic cam you accessed recently. Ring a bell?”

She blew out a breath. “Oh, that. I had permission. The reason I left after the funeral so abruptly was an emergency at home. The man who took my father’s place as Chief of Police, in our little town was gunned down on the side of the road. Keep in mind my hometown has never had a violent crime committed within its boundaries in the thirty-five years Dad was Chief.” She paused for a moment. “Okay, there was that time that Darla hit Joey over the head with a cast-iron frying pan. Knocked him out cold. But he deserved it. No charges were filed.” She waived her hands in a dismissive gesture and continued. “The only clues we had on the new Chief’s murder was a truck with a stolen license plate and two men that he stopped to see if they needed assistance prior to his death. When he left the men, he was alive and well. An hour later, he was dead. A long story short, I used the traffic cams to see if I could track down the truck before its arrival here. And I did. They stopped at home improvement centers in Denver and Colorado Springs. My dad, who is now acting Chief of Police, turned the info over to Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department. Hopefully, we’ll get surveillance tapes of the men’s faces and what they were buying.”

“Was that surveillance obtained?” Mark asked.
