A sneak peek between the pages of Viking’s Crusade.
Soren led her into a cozy nook beneath a pine with a moss covered trunk. The intimate area had a cave of sorts carved into a monstrous rock on one side. Pine branches hung to the ground on the other. Like all places in the Realm, soft verdant grass grew where it shouldn’t. Not that she was complaining as she sat and looked up.

“I used to enjoy sitting beneath the trees at my home in Lake Placid,” she mentioned, steering the conversation away from intimacy. “Then I went off to college and never got around to sitting under one again.”

He lit a fire and sat beside her. “It is peaceful, yes?”

“It really is,” she murmured. “Funny, maybe a small part of me was trying to bring that sense of peace to the rest of the world.”

“By the sounds of it, you did.”

“Here and there.” Not when it mattered most, though.

“I would like to it see someday,” he said softly. “Your life…what you accomplished.”

“You mean, look through my mind’s eye.” She tensed at the thought. It was one thing catching her thoughts, but to let him all the way in would mean him seeing first-hand the atrocities she had caused. “Maybe eventually.”

“When you are ready,” he agreed. “Though it might happen against your will as it has for some of our kin.”

“I know.” She met his eyes. “I guess I just want to put it off for as long as possible.” She shook her head, realizing it was for more reasons than one. “Not just for me but for you.”

“You are afraid of the way I will look at you. That it will damage the way my dragon looks at yours, the connection they are so desperate for.” He shook his head. “But it will not, Ava. It cannot.”

“You don’t know that.”

“I do, though. As I said before, my dragon can only lend yours comfort and protect it,” he said softly. “Letting me and my dragon in will not push us away but pull us closer. It will allow us to soak up some of your pain…to help you find self-forgiveness.”

“How can you know that when you’ve never had a mate?”

“Because I have had a mate.” He brushed the back of his knuckles along her jaw. “You.” He searched her eyes. “Surely, you feel the growing connection. The intense bond.”

“You know I do,” she whispered because she couldn’t quite find her voice. “Only our growing connection isn’t giving me a sense of confidence. Instead, I feel like I’m drawing closer to unbearable pain.” While she meant to keep it to herself, her inner dragon prompted her tongue along. “I keep getting this nagging feeling I’m going to lose you now that I’ve found you.”

“You cannot let that stand in your way,” he said gently. “Instead, you have to trust it, allow the connection. In that, you will find peace.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I already feel it.” His fingers trailed down the side of her neck, causing a fresh spike of heat. “While yes, there is great risk, there is also certainty that this is eternal. That the connection we made on Múspellsheimr is ours for all time.” He tilted her chin until their eyes were aligned. “Our dragons will always find their way back to each other, Ava. So even if you lose me in this life, there will be another. I will return to you.”

He certainly had a way with words, didn’t he? But they were true words said from his heart. She could see it in his eyes. Sense it in his soul. More than that, she could feel it in his tender touch.

“What are you doing here?” Davyn growled into her mind.

She blinked at him, only now realizing they must be dreaming together. Wonderful. Not.

“I don’t know.” She frowned. “Didn’t you bring me along?”

“Why would I do that?” He shook his head. “You tend to bring havoc with you wherever you go.”

“Thanks,” she said dryly.

“It’s true.”

“Says you.” She shrugged and spoke without thinking. “I like to think I bring excitement.”

Had that sounded like flirting?

“I do not want excitement with you, Cupid,” he grumbled aloud.

“Any more than I want excitement with you,” she assured as they stood alone in a darkened area covered by pines. “And you definitely dragged me along somehow because I sure as heck didn’t try to follow you.” She shook her head. “The last thing I remember was feeling drowsy then I was here so I must’ve dosed off.”

“You should not have been able to follow me to this place,” he grunted in dismay, a fierce scowl on his face. “It is too telling.”

She met his eyes, catching his drift. “Nope lose that thought.” She shook her head. “Just because I got dragged along in a dream doesn’t mean we’re fated mates. It’s got to be the magic of this place up to no good.”

“My magic,” he reminded. “And I agree it is up to no good.”

Though she tried to pull her gaze from his, she was suddenly all too aware of his gorgeous eyes despite the darkness. Eyes that seemed to draw her in more than usual in this strange dreamlike state.

“Oh shoot,” she whispered, drifting closer even as she tried to stop, as she tried to gain control. “I don’t think I like this dreaming thing.”

“It is hard to control a dream,” he said softly, his voice less gruff now.

“We’re controlling this dream though,” she denied even as she drifted closer.

“Yes,” he assured, drifting closer as well. “Because we are here to work.”

“To lure the enemies,” she murmured, her eyes falling to his lips.

“That is right,” he murmured, his eyes falling to her lips.

“Right,” she whispered. “This is right.”

“Yes,” he whispered. “It is.”

Then she drifted right into his arms, tilted her head back and closed her eyes, more than ready to be kissed. More than ready to feel once again what those sensuous lips of his could do.

Then air blew by her face, and her eyes flew open.

An arrow had whizzed by their faces moments before their lips touched.

They were under attack.

A sneak peek between the pages of Diamond Moon.

He reached out with his Wolf senses. The feedback froze his fingers on the doorknob. Female. Damn, she smelled good. Human. Wolf. Wait…both? The copper tang of blood hit his nose. And injured.

He flung open the door. His abrupt move caught his visitor off guard, one small, white fist raised to knock. The woman startled and fell forward. Catching her, he pulled her inside, kicking the door shut with his foot.

She sagged against him, a shivering bundle of wet woman. Underneath the dampness, her scent drop-kicked his gut. Apples and cinnamon. Roses and honey. His body perked up, taking extreme notice. He fought the growl of possession threatening to tear out of his throat. Holy hell, had his potential mate just walked into his home in the middle of a storm?

The scent of her blood jump-started his brain into action. He lowered her gently to the floor. “Jesus. You okay?”

His instincts urged him to check her for wounds, but he was a stranger and didn’t want to spook her. But goddamn, he wanted to touch her. Peel off her wet clothes. See all of her. With a jacket covering her torso, tight jeans hiding her legs, and her ball cap pulled low on her face, all he’d seen so far was her quivering pale chin, full red lips, and those delicate, trembling hands.

“S-s-sorry, d-dripping all ov-v-ver your f-f-floor,” she said, teeth chattering. Her snow white fingers curled on the hardwood, arms trembling with her effort to keep herself upright. Blood streaked the wood. A line of liquid crimson slid down her jaw and dripped from her chin onto her jacket.

To hell with propriety. “You’re injured. Let me help you.” He pulled off her cap and damn near swallowed his tongue.

Big green eyes blinked up at him from a face so pale it made him think of moonlight. Drenched, short black hair lay plastered to her head, the ends framing features reminiscent of the fairies his sister loved to draw for the hidden-object games she designed. Ethereal beauty. My beauty. He stroked a knuckle down her cheek then ran his thumb over her soft, full lower lip.

She flinched and batted his hand away, falling to her side in the process.

Ross snapped back to reality with a healthy hit of guilt. “Shit. Sorry.”

His gaze shot to her forehead where a two-inch cut sent blood trailing over her prominent cheekbone with its silky-smooth skin he’d so enjoyed caressing—

Shit. He gave himself a mental ass kicking for scaring her. “I’m Ross. You’re safe here. Promise.”

Interview Natasha Brown Author of Half-Blood Descendant

Give a warm welcome to USA TODAY’s bestselling author Natasha Brown. She blends urban fantasy, paranormal romance and supernatural suspense in the Half-Bloods, an adventure for lovers of shifters, vampires… and more. Her new release  Half-Blood Descendant, is book one in Half-Blood – A Paranormal Series.

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter Cookie from the plate, and lets find out a little about Natasha and Half-Blood Descendant.

What inspired you to write?

You know that feeling when you read a great book and you can’t put it down? You stay up way too late reading, your heart races as you’re sucked into the world between the pages, and you think about the characters when you should be doing other things? It was that excitement that led me to want to create the same experience for others. I wanted to build my own worlds and characters. And it was during a stressful time in my life following one of my daughter’s open-heart surgeries when I needed an escape. So, I poured myself into writing my very first novel, and it proved to be just what I needed.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing novels for the last six years, although in my youth, I spent lots of time writing prose.

Do you see yourself in your characters?

I don’t often write characters modeled after myself. If I do, I’m not aware of it at least. They are based off personalities I’ve observed. Although, the more humorous side of my characters definitely channels the smart-aleck in me since I’m often cracking jokes

What do you want your readers to take away from your books?

I try to give readers a sense of excitement and wonder and endeavor to deliver them into another world where they imagine themselves as a fly on the wall.

Tell us a little about Half-Blood Descendant.
Shifters live in secret. They’re not the only ones

Jax never stays anywhere long enough to put down roots. He’s a shapeshifter—the only one of his kind, or so he thinks. While prowling on his landlady’s property, he is stunned to find a man feeding on her neck. Although he frightens away the blood-sucker, Jax leaves behind a paralyzed woman and a trail of blood in his wake.

Aerilyn teaches high school and doubles as a guardian for the Genus Society, an ancient underground shifter organization. After learning of a cougar attack in her own mountain neighborhood, she suspects a rogue shifter is to blame.

When the Society accuses Jax of the “animal attack,” he is ordered to stick around until he can clear his name. Desperate to regain his freedom, he must put his trust in his beautiful guardian. Their forbidden attraction leads Aerilyn to wonder if the blue-eyed drifter is innocent. And if he is, the Society has an even bigger problem on its hands—one that feeds on blood.

A sneak peek between the pages of Half-BLood Descendant

Aerilyn pulled off her jacket and set it on the ground. Next, she slipped off her shoes and unbuttoned her jeans. A cold breeze whistled through the valley, raising goosebumps on her arms as she pulled her V-neck off. She held the fabric to her chest and hunched away from the wind.

When it died down, she dropped her shirt onto her growing pile of clothes. She rested her hand against one of the aspens to brace herself while she took off her socks and happened to glance back at her companion. Jax was down to his underwear, standing in the moonlight. Dark lines adorned his back, forming what appeared to be an intricate tattoo, one she couldn’t see well enough from her vantage point. She could, however, see how muscular he was. As he tugged at the waistband of his boxers, she blushed and looked away, reminding herself he would be gone as soon as her father allowed him to leave town.

She didn’t waste any time removing the last of her clothing and stood among the pale aspen trunks, calling to the energy at her core. It surged through her pores, chasing away all visible marking of her humanity until none was left. Aerilyn took a deep breath and stepped out from behind the trees.
