Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Peggy’s first book in her bridal series, Dearly Beloved.

It seems every romance novelist at one point in her career will write a bridal series. I mean, how better to show a happily ever after ending than with a wedding, right? A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN is my contribution to the wedding tropes of the romance genre and book 1 in the series, DEARLY BELOVED, is on sale right now, just in time for wedding and beach reading seasons.

Tell us a little about Dearly Beloved.

Colleen O’Dowd manages a thriving bridal business with her sisters in Heaven, New Hampshire. After fleeing Manhattan and her cheating ex-fiancé, Colleen still believes in happily ever afters. But with a demanding business to run, her sisters to look after, and their 93-year-old grandmother to keep out of trouble, she’s worried she’ll never find Mr. Right.

Playboy Slade Harrington doesn’t believe in marriage. His father’s six weddings have taught him life is better as an unencumbered single guy. But Slade loves his little sister. He’ll do anything for her, including footing the bill for her dream wedding. He doesn’t plan on losing his heart to a smart-mouthed, gorgeous wedding planner, though.

When her ex-fiancé comes back into the picture, Colleen must choose between Mr. Right and Mr. Right Now.

Peak between the pages of Dearly Beloved:

“So, this is a pig roast.”

I slanted a look at Slade. “Is that a question or a statement?”

He turned from where he’d been staring at the spit holding the two-hundred-pound wedding dinner for the fifty quests, a sheepish grin on his face.

“A little of both, maybe?”

I shook my head, realizing it was impossible to stay upset with him for very long. He’d been an absolute Godsend pre-ceremony, helping Kolby install the one-hundred-foot runner from the cabin to the gazebo. He’d wiped down the chairs that were still damp from the early morning lake-mist condensation and had even climbed up to the top of the gazebo to help drape the flowers for a suddenly height-frightened Charity. I knew what she was doing, of course. Charity has never been afraid of anything in her life, but seeing Slade climb his way up to, and then dangle from, the roof to hang the flowers was an eye-opener she couldn’t miss.

Me, either.

He’d done as I’d asked and stayed on the sidelines during the ceremony, which my sister Cathleen officiated at, and then had helped round everyone up for pictures at the lake. He’d even been helpful corralling the guests into their cars and trucks to shuttle them back to the Gunderson’s farm for the reception.

So far he’d stuck by my side as we watched the bridal party dance their little hearts out in the barn, listened to the good-natured toasts and the ribald ones, too, of the best man and maid of honor, and had wheeled Kimmy’s one-hundred-and-three-year-old great-grandmother to her place of honor at the head table.

If I didn’t know he already ruled a financial empire, I’d be tempted to give him a second job on the weekends as an event assistant.

“Oh, Colleen, I can’t thank you enough,” Kimmy Schmidt, nee Gunderson, told me as she pulled me into a hug. She had always been an enthusiastic hugger, clamping her body fully against whomever she was wrapped around, but before the added eight-month pregnancy belly, it had been easier to hug her back. Now, I couldn’t get my arms even halfway around her midsection and I was afraid all her vigorous body bumping was harmful to the baby.

Kimmy had no such concerns.

“Everything was perfect. Abso perfection. Your team is simply the ultimate best.”

One of Kimmy’s endearing traits? She loved to speak in absolutes.

“Uncle Pecker said the pig is almost ready. You’re staying for supper, right?”

“I can’t, Kimmy, I’m sorry. I’ve got a thousand things to do before tomorrow, but Charity and Kolby are staying. Kolby will keep taking pictures and candids until the end, and anything you need or want, or any problems that pop up, Charity can take care of. But don’t worry, because there will be no problems.”

Kimmy yanked me in for another squeeze. It was a good thing I hadn’t drunk anything all afternoon, because I could feel my bladder knock against my intestines with the force of this one. “Of course there won’t be any problems. Look who my wedding planner is.”

Her father called her name from across the field and with one more hug and a quick kiss to my cheek, she waddled across the freshly mown cornfield to him.

“Uncle Pecker?” Slade said, dangerously close to my ear. So close, his breath warmed over my entire neck. Before I did something stupid like turn around and pull him into a Kimmy-worthy embrace, I took a few steps forward and away from him and his hot—and by hot, I mean wowza!—breath.

“His given name is Woodrow. It’s his father’s name as well, and one Woody in the family was, I guess, enough.”

It took him a moment. I could see when the dawn broke by the way his sexy eyes widened and his mouth opened for a second.

“And you had the nerve to make fun of Bunny,” he said. “Being nicknamed after a rabbit, I have to think, is much more preferable to being referred to as a woodpecker.”

“Maybe. But both names are pretty awful.”

“Yes, they are.”

“I need a minute to let Charity and Kolby know I’m leaving, then we can go.”
How he finagled it so he drove out to the farm in my car, I still didn’t know. But I was, for all intents and purposes, his ride.

Once I’d made sure my two assistants were set, Slade and I headed back into town.

“I assumed you stayed for the entire reception,” Slade said.

“I usually do, if for no other reason than to ensure if any problems arise I can be the fixer and not have to worry the bridal party or the parents.”

“So how come we didn’t stay?”

“First, trust me when I tell you there will be no problems. And if any arise, they’re going to be family and alcohol-related, so Kimmy’s parents will take care of it. And believe me, they will do a much better job than I would. Nobody messes with Grover Gunderson and walks away unscathed.”

I slid a sideglance to him. My heart sped up a little at the sight of his smile.

“Is he related to Uncle Woodrow?”

“Brothers.”

“Their mother must have had a thing for presidents.”

I nodded. “She did. You didn’t meet uncles Calvin and Millard.”

His free and easy laugh tickled all the way down my spine.

“What’s the second reason?”

“I need to get to the church. I’ve got a rehearsal for tomorrow’s wedding scheduled, and Maureen is doing the rehearsal dinner back at the inn.”

The car grew quiet as I drove. I had fifteen things running through my head about tomorrow’s nuptials, an equal number concerning Nanny Fee and the talk I’d had with my sisters the night before, and then even more thoughts revolving around my work schedule for the week.

“What are you doing after that?”

“Making sure everything is set for the wedding. I’ve got a list of things to double check back at the house, and I need to make some calls to verify times. I should have done it all yesterday, but as you’re well aware, time got away from me. Why?”

All those important thoughts flew out the car window when Slade said, “Have dinner with me.”

“What?”

“You heard me.” He turned his body a bit so he was almost facing me. The penetrating scrutiny of his gaze sliced right through me. “I’ve been with you all day, Colleen. You didn’t stop once to eat or even have a drink of water. You’ve been in constant motion since I arrived at the lake, and that was at nine o’clock. Charity said you’d all been there since seven thirty, setting up. You’ve got to be hungry by now because I know I am. Starving, in fact.”

The thought of sharing a meal alone with him was too intimate, too unsettling for me to consider. Yesterday’s stop for a quick slice of pizza aside, the last time I’d dined with him I’d ruined his suit and he’d been privy to a scene with Vlad I didn’t want to think about again.

Ever.

One of the best things about becoming a published romance author is connecting with other authors. This is a tough business, and it’s wonderful to be able to share the ups and downs with like-minded folk. The writing community is incredibly supportive. We celebrate each other’s successes and commiserate about bad reviews, poor sales, and the changing market. Any time I have a question about plot, semantics, or social media, I only have to ask, and within hours I’ll receive a dozen helpful responses.

Most writers I’ve met have a good sense of humor, a thick skin, and an eternal optimism that keeps them focused on writing that next book. This blog post is a prime example of this support.

Thank you for hosting me on your site, Tena. You’re a champion of fellow authors.

Aw thank you CB. You are correct it’s a tough business but we all do our best!

Tell us about Secret Betrayal.

Head college librarian, Marissa Reynolds has spent years distancing herself from her crime king pin uncle and his criminal empire. When she awakens in an unfamiliar hotel room with blood on her hands and no memory of how she got there, the past returns with a vengeance, and her life spirals into a nightmare.

Straight-laced, Assistant district Attorney, Scott Bannister has spent a lifetime seeking justice for the senseless gangland shooting deaths of his parents. When he realizes Marissa is the niece of his prime suspect, he crosses a line guaranteed to put in jeopardy both his life and his beloved career.

He’s made it clear he’ll do anything to destroy her uncle. She fears he’s using her to achieve his goal. As the body count mounts, and their lives are threatened, they must put aside their distrust and work together to find the devious killer. Will they be able to forgive and find true love?

A sneak peek between the pages of Secret Betrayal!

She pushed to her hands and knees. The pounding in her brain mushroomed into a full-blown, jackhammer assault. With a moan, she sank onto her bottom and grabbed her head in a fruitless effort to keep her brain from exploding. Despite the pain, she needed to get up. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

Faint wisps of light seeped through the edges of the window curtains. The distant sound of traffic echoed through the glass. A lamp imbued the room with a soft, rosy glow, revealing a king-size bed. The cover on the bed was a glossy, garish pink, the pillows covered in the same lurid color, the edges trimmed with frilly, black lace.

She rubbed the back of her neck and closed her eyes, but when she opened them again she was still in the unfamiliar room. A battered desk faced the bed, a large, flat screen television on top. The flickering images of a naked, full-breasted woman being entertained by two equally naked men played across the screen.

A wingback chair, covered in black leatherette sat in the far corner where a door was ajar revealing the cracked linoleum floor of a bathroom and the edge of a chipped porcelain sink. A framed diagram of a fire escape route was posted on the back of the other door. A hotel room? She dug her fingers into her temples. Why couldn’t she remember?

Sophie was the love of my life. Okay, we were twelve the last time I saw her but still. I’ve tried everything to move on—whiskey, women, weed. Nothing seemed to fill the void. Now, ten years later, she shows up out of the blue. The problem, I’m not the boy she used to know. I have a reputation that could ruin everything. Still, I have to try. Even if nothing happens between us, having Sophie in my life as a friend is better than not having her at all. Come A Little Closer is the second installment in the Georgia Boys Series. It can be read as a standalone novel.

Read an Excerpt

I blush and shake my head. “We should get started on the bedroom.”

Kevin follows behind me, fiddling with his phone. I refill the paint tray and set it on the bedroom floor. Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” starts playing. Kevin comes up behind me, puts his hands on my hips and begins to move them to the music. He presses against my back. My hands fall to my sides, and I tilt my head against his chest.

“This is not helping my walls get painted,” I whine.

“Come on, dance with me.” he pleads.

I turn around and stare into his eyes. It would be so easy to get lost in them but I can’t. I won’t. My hips stop moving, but Kevin’s still dancing. I raise the paintbrush that’s in my hand and slap him in the face with it. Slap sounds violent. It was more like I grazed him with cream colored paint while my hand slowly moved in front of his face. Kevin stops dancing. His jaw hangs open.

“Game on babe.”

About the Author: Chrissy Brown lives in Fort Myers, Fl with her hubby, two beautiful girls, one dog who loves to cuddle and another dog who pees on everything. She enjoys going to hockey games, reading romance novels and having “Netflix and Chill” nights.

Tell us a little about Curse of the Amber:
Quintus was a dutiful son and soldier. His duty led him to Britannia, to improve his marriage prospects and ensure the Druids never rise again. He never expected to be sacrificed to their sacred bog, trapped forever by the gods below.
Two thousand years later, Asenath Hayes discovers the most well-preserved body in history. The last thing she needs is for him to wake up.
As the young archaeologist delves into Druidic rituals to grasp why Quintus was offered to a Welsh bog and then resurrected, she is forced to complete her research with the “missing” body, dodge her ex-lover and mentor with his own agenda, and keep her gorgeous new house guest under wraps.
But, smitten with her as he seems, Quintus says he wants to go home.
Asenath is drawn to Quintus by the secrets they share, even if it scares her. As Asenath is pulled deeper into the mysteries of the bog, she must risk everything to keep him from hell’s cold grasp as she uncovers forbidden rites, awakened deities, and an attraction that transcends the ages.
A sneak peek between the pages of Curse of the Amber:

The sun seems to have forgotten Wales. I didn’t think there was any place on Earth that could make me long to be in Egypt again, but I couldn’t escape the memories that flooded me. I shivered in the absence of the Valley’s merciless heat, where for summers on end its oppressive dryness sucked the life out of my lips and baked my skin into hardened, sand-beaten clay. That dryness had followed Ramesses, Amenhotep, Aken-aten, and his son beyond the world’s suffering down to their resting place, and kept the divine kings ready in the dark, empty stillness.

But the day’s oppression had always faded with the sun. The perfection of those nights on the Eastern Bank, at our host Hani’s home—that was what I missed. Invigorated by the fresh, life-giving breeze off the Nile’s surface and snuggled between my parents under thin woven blankets was a warmth I knew I would never feel again. The cold and damp of Britain, once the stronghold of the Druids, was relentless. The gnawing feeling at the pit of my stomach grew, and the thought I’d pushed away more than once made itself more insistent.

This was a mistakeI shouldn’t be here.

My fingertips numbed to the statuette in my hand, a solid representation of the wet chill in the air. Its faceless form was as alien to me as the bog in which I crouched. The shape of the stone fetish was at least interesting, a long, slender column with a severe “V” etched into it. It held more promise than the dozens of thin rings fashioned out of iron, bronze, and even gold, heaped together in a tangle, the clay pottery, now in shards, and scraps of linen that appeared to be tossed desperately into the bog as a last-ditch effort to avoid Roman destruction. But I couldn’t enjoy it for what it was. It was inscrutable, too disconnected from anything familiar. Its primitive, obscure expression reminded me of my own cold thoughts, and as I squeezed the chilled stone in my hand, I doubted if I would discover anything that had once been warm—made of flesh and blood. We were as deep down as the famous bog bodies had been, more so in certain places, and still we had nothing, or rather no one, to show for it.

I lifted my head, trying to shake off my melancholy and averting my eyes from the stone carving that would not reveal its secrets to me. I was too low down to inhale even a whiff of air that wasn’t saturated with the grassy pungency of the bog wall. From my vantage point, huddled low in a deep, man-hewn pit, the sodden depression of the bog appeared even more overgrown on all sides. Birch trees poked out of humble clusters of willows, red-speckled buckthorn, and mountain ash. Except for these trees skirting its outermost edges, the sunken area was wide and open. The cauldron bog retained its secluded atmosphere, despite being carved into a series of waterlogged cavities.

My somber mood deepened when I saw my advisor approach. Up until then I’d been successful at avoiding him. I deliberately didn’t linger, and always found a reason to visit another pit when the one we were in suddenly emptied of other researchers. I’d resisted the wrenching feeling in my gut too long, but as our excavation wound down, it was impossible to ignore, with nowhere for my thoughts to hide—there was nothing left of what used to be my life.

“How’s it going?” Alex asked, and knelt beside me.

“Fine,” I answered, not bothering to look up from the peat I was brushing off of a link of iron rings sunken into the over-saturated soil.

After a long, awkward silence, he said, “It’s okay, you know.”

            “What is?”

“If you don’t…if we don’t find one.”

I swallowed hard. The only place for my rising fury to go was back down.

“I just don’t want you to think that this whole thing was a waste—”

“A waste?” I shot back. “I’ve got enough to keep me occupied for the next decade, thank you.” It was true, but that didn’t make the prospect of studying human sacrifice sansa human sound any better. Nothing would tell us as much about the Druids as human remains that had, willingly or otherwise, undergone their practices. It may have been more than anyone else expected, but the bar had been set impossibly high. A human discovery might have been the only way to exceed my father’s own discoveries in the Valley of the Kings and earn the same level of respect in my own right.

“All right, all right,” Alex said, contrite. “I didn’t come over here to upset you.”

“Then why are you here?” There was more bite in my voice than I meant, but he had that amused eyebrow raised again, the one that made my anger meaningless and painted me as a silly, wide-eyed novice with dreams of finding the next Tut.

“I thought you might need a refill.” He offered me a cup of coffee.

A gruff “thank you” was all I could manage. My brain had reached maximum capacity for caffeine, but it went down easy. Milk and two sugars, just the way I liked it. Damn.
