After waving goodbye to her yoga students, Josie closed the heavy door and leaned her back against the cool wood. The fire had burned itself out in the fireplace and the sunlight streaming through the front windows heated the room.

She crossed to the secretary and ran her hand over the scarred wooden top. It warmed to her touch. Yanking her hand away, she stared at the desk then back at her tingling hand and wiggled her fingers. What the heck? Something was drawing her to the desk, she eased into the antique wooden chair Summer had given her which nearly matched the intricate flower and leaf carvings on the edges and legs of the secretary.

Her grandmother’s worn leather book materialized on the desktop. The catch released and the cover flipped open. Several pages flipped of their own volition until stopping at a page where flowing longhand words glowed violet on the yellowed parchment. With a trembling hand, she reached, touched the page, and the room spun. Multi-color ribbons streamed in a vortex that sucked her in. Her stomach roiled and she covered her mouth hoping to keep her stomach contents in place. Suddenly as it started the motion stopped. She blew out a breath and glanced around. One thing was for certain, she wasn’t at Earthbound any longer.

She stood at a garden gate, the trellis overhead covered in beautiful blooming flowers the sweet fragrance was familiar, but she couldn’t place it. Roses bushes with the biggest red, yellow and pink blooms she’d ever seen were at the far end of the garden at either end of a wooden settee. The bench had the same floral carving across the back and down the legs as her grandmother’s desk. Only the color on the carved flower petals and leaves wasn’t worn but vibrant. A light touch on her shoulder had her whirling around hands fisted in front of her.

A willowy creature with huge blue eyes and silver hair cascading around her shoulders to the middle of back touched her fists. The caress was warm and calming. “No need to fear me. I mean you no harm.”

Her heart thundered in her chest as she tried to quell her fight or flight response. “Who are you? Where the hell am I?

Another aspect to this book and A WItch’s Journey Series is the disabled vets that Lathen mentors and assists in finding jobs to better their lives. Once a wounded vet himself, alienated and angry, Lathen met Pepper and learned the secrets the animals hold. They don’t judge. They listen. They are able see right into your soul and comfort. They know what you need, if you only listen. At least that’s the way I feel. Wildlife rescue and rehab is near and dear to my heart. Heck, rescue of any animal is high on my list. Recently, I read an fantastic article that confirmed my thoughts and believes in the relationship between human and parrots, another of my passions. A bit about A Witch’s Holiday Wedding:

Elemental witch, Pepper McKay and former Navy SEAL, Lathen Quartz have built Lobster Cove Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on enchanted McKay land. During a romantic interlude on Halloween night, Pepper happily agrees to become Lathen’s wife. What better day than Winter Solstice for their wedding in a town that loves celebrations and Christmas. However, planning a wedding and operating their wildlife center takes a toll on both Pepper and Lathen.

The flurry of voices faded away as Pepper watched the ebb and flow of the negotiations between the two men, while the others in the room looked on. She blinked and peered up at him. “About what?” When she took a minute to clear her head, she glanced from his steeled expression to the Lt. Commander’s thunderous demeanor. There was really no other way to describe it. A storm raged beneath the commander’s attempt at a calm facade. Her lips twitched, he hadn’t expected this. Or had he?

In reviewing my choices, I decided to give JD Robb another try. My first book of her’s I hated. I was told my people that absolutely love her books, I’d picked one of her worst books in that series. Figures. So one more time I ‘ll try Golden in Death.

In the latest thriller by JD Robb, homicide detective Eve Dallas investigates a murder with a mysterious motive―and a terrifying weapon. Release date Feb. 4, 2020.

Next up, Linda Howard’s After Sundown, release date of March 31, 2020.

Danger brings together two guarded hearts in a battle for survival in this irresistible story from New York Times best-selling authors Linda Howard and Linda Jones.

The Guardian by John Grisham. Again I loved all his novels until the last few years. Seemed to me he was calling them in. Gray Mountain was a prime example. He spent the first six chapters rehashing what he said in the first chapter. But I’m going to give him one more chance.

In the small Florida town of Seabrook, a young lawyer named Keith Russo was shot dead at his desk as he worked late one night. The killer left no clues. There were no witnesses, no one with a motive.
